Posted these old pics on the error forum - but they belong here too. These are old images - and I am bring these two coins to Baltimore to get professionally imaged. Todd Pollock of BluCCPhotos will be there.
I buy plenty of raw coins that would rival any coins that I have posted in holders. I am also very selective of what I will buy in a holder. A slab does not automatically mean a problem free or eye appealing coin. Focus on the coin, and not it's surroundings.
I agree completely. I find myself buying raw coins that I probably shouldn't if they are a good deal - even though I know some of them have or might have an issue. It's getting to the point now that I need to be more selective - raw or not I guess. Gone are my days of just buying something because it fits or my son thinks its cool haha.
A wiser man than I has said: THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUS IN NUMISMATICS. There is no such thing as a "great deal" - also - if it seems too good to be true then it probably isn't.
Ok so here is the ebay coin that we bid on and won but had forgotten about. This one was my sons pick - I wasn't a big fan. I have to admit that now that I have the coin in hand, I like it. The reverse picture didnt' come out good - sorry. Didn't realize it. The pictures looks like there is a scratch on the motto and on the right of the reverse but I don't see them with a loop so i'm guessing it's something with the camera and me being jumpy.
First off Elbesaar, I have admired the stud coins you keep posting and love that capped! But Secondly I think you mean that: if it seems too good to be true then it probably IS to good to be true. :hail:
I picked up this 1916 .10$ Friday night at an auction for my wall display of US Coinage. My Camera skills suck, but it is in really nice shape.
Probably have never posted images of the last group of raw coins for the Dansco. I took these pics with my iPhone - and never bothered with the reverses. I have decided to get these certified. Nothing will be available until they get back from PCGS... You can grade the coin [ OBV only - but there is nothing wrong with the Reverses - so - have a good time guessimating the grades !! ] { Ok, not my pic - its the seller's pic ... but its off to PCGS regardless: } -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- seems the CT system doesn't like multiple images ... so one at a time
I'm saying the 1900-S is XF45. There appears to be enough detail in the wreath and hair but what do I know...
Mike - do you mind explaining why that is specifically? I had the PCGS photo grades open to compare next to the coins you posted. The 1900-S looks to have way more detail in the hair and wreath to anything near a VF20-25. When I look at your coin against the photograde coins - it looks to me to be in the XF-45 range. Why would you only put it at a 20?
I think that sums up the raw coins in the Dansco. Stay tuned for the results - probably in May - they are not pushing out the Economy submissiions too quickly !!
Jim, I had the wrong glasses on when I read your reply - I thought you said the 1910-S - not the 1900-S. I have the coin in the bank - but I bought the coin from another Barber Collector / Dealer - and we both agreed it was a VF 35. So... you are not too far off... its a nice coin - that's all I can say at the moment.
