What's wrong w/ this NGC slab?

Can anyone see what is wrong here? Do I need to report this?



Love this coin, graded MS64 though I definitely think this should be a 65/66. Great luster, minimal nicks and just stunning

What the heck is going on with that label?

 

Aside from it prob being a fake, when you show the obverse, its an edge view holder. When you show the reverse, its not an edge view holder.

 

I noticed this too. Looks like it may be.

Look at the photos you posted. Obverse shows an edgeview holder and the reverse an older solid style. The closeups both show tabs.

yeah that label is killing me..it looks like someone opened up the slab and replaced the label. Also the serial number is wrong too

 

I assume you mean fake slab, correct?

It still looks as though the label is on, not inside the holder to me. Probably nothing more than someone trying to pass of the coin as something its not. It makes no sense that such a terrible label would be used for any other purpose, and the deception factor of a fake NGC slab just is not there IMHO.

the label is on the inside of the slab..I agree though it is probably someone trying to pass the coin as something as it is not.

 

I should mention, this is one of the reasons why you buy the coin and not the slab!

 

Re-crack that thing and see if the label comes off and reveals a true label.

Well, that answers that then So you are in possession of this coin? How do the sides/edges of the slab look? Being as the label is on the inside, I find this very interesting. Are you planning on cracking it?

 

Book, Yes the coin is in my possession. I am thinking a couple things A. a person bought a fake NGC slab and inserted the coin B. The person bought a real slab that was labeled "Genuine' "clean" Altered Surface" etc.. was skilled at taken it part because I can only think of 1 area on the slab where it may have been opened. C. This is a real slab that NGC did a crappy job at and was only a "test" purposes (doubt it but never the less it could happen).


I would like to see what would happen if I cracked it out but at the same time, I have a really nice coin that I dont want to damage. Thoughts?

 

while I can agree to that then let me ask this question (hopefully it can be like comparing apples to apples)..If I buy any other slab and mark it with something is it not still a genuine slab? If I buy a honda and make some modifications to it, is it no longer a honda?
