Hi,Doubling is probably DDR but i need specialists to know more about this coin. For you, is it die polish or planchet striations on this coin. Obvers is normal. Any comments are welcome! Thank you! CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/
Hi Ikandiggit, This is MD? Are you sure about that? Can you explain why it is not a doubled die? Thank you! CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/
The correct term is doubled die. Flat and shelf-like are the characteristics of Machine doubling: A doubled die coin would look like this: Notice the devices are doubled. The height of the secondary doubling is the same as the primary device. Compare it to yours which is what appears in the diagram. It has been sheared by die movement and is lower than the primary device. Here's an extreme example of md:
Perfect illustration for MD and even better for explanations to new members. Did you draw that yourself?
That is the perfect example. I knew the difference but man did you make that the clearest example ever
Md can appear anywhere and can include one or more of the devices. It's commonly caused by die chatter.
Hi all, Add some pics from camera (cut and past in paint) There are lot of doubling... CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/
Hi all, Just add obverse picture. There is nothing special, no striations. Look is OK. Comments are always welcome! Thank you! CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/
Too hard to tell from the pics. It may be die polishing marks but it looks more like scratches. Die polishing marks appear raised on the surface of the coin. Your coin looks like it has incused lines. However, if the lines are raised on your coin, then yes, it's the result of die scratches.
Hi Ikandiggit, "Your coin looks like it has incused lines." Yes they are incused; not raised. Look like scratches directly on the planchet. CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/
