I coin roll hunted $250 in halves. No silver, but looking for low mintages and errors. I found this Kennedy with a thick rim.

The edge of the coin has not been modified at all. The thickness of the rim is just the same as a regular half.

My bad...it seems like all of the 71's are like this. Anyone care to explain why?

It was just a design change:

"Slight differences appear on the half dollar throughout the years. A wide obverse rim appeared in 1971-1972, with the rim made slightly smaller from 1973-1982. Differences in the rim and the appearance of the Presidential seal can be noted."

Found in .09 sec? On Google?

I would never have thought to look that up on Google. I'm surprised information can be found that easily on the internet. I would have posted a thread first and let others do the work for me.

.09 seconds? I have better things to do with my time than waste .09 seconds finding something on Google when I have a thread I can create.

Especially after being here on CT for 6 months or more.

Doesn't matter. Starting a thread without researching is so much more important. Any use of time, even hours, makes it all worthwhile. :p

I believe it to be the new official numismatic term for a Kennedy Half Dollar. In addition to shortening Kennedy's last name to a lower case initial, half will now be spelled as "halve" for a singular coin. This will help in the future when people want to pluralize the word, they will automatically know to just add an s to that word. Spelling half as half just confuses people new to numismatics, because they don't know that you don't spell the pluralization of that word as halfs. Similarly, a Franklin Half Dollar will be known as an f halve, and a Barber Half Dollar will be known as a b halve.

You should consider yourselve (see, spelling the new way works for other words, too) fortunate, because all this will come out officially in the "Coin Guru's Guide for Newmismatics, or How I came onto CoinTalk just to start threads - discuss among yourselves".

Available from major discounters at halve price, plus S/H, so you save .20 per copy.

Now finally someone makes some common sense , I like your post. Just because someone misspells a few words we should not try to condem them. There are probably a few folks on here that have disabilitiy problems and some of them may be trying to learn our language. I always say until you have walked a mile or more in the other folks shoes don't try to put them down.I read a post on this forum where a severly handicapped man passed away and a few folks were describing what a great attributor he was to this forum. The first thing I thought of was how many members on here probably mistreated him while he was still alive and making threads on the talk forum. I believe I read that his mouth was the only part of his body that he could move. imagine a guy like that being good enough to try to help others learn and using his mouth to try to type out a post. Now I really applaud that guy and I wish I had been a forum member before he passed away. does any of you remember this awesome person ?
