was hoping someone could tell me the grade and possibly value of this 1909 vdb cent ... i also have some pics zoomed out a bit ...tell me if these pics aren't good enough to determine the grade or if there's too much shadow on the bottom Obverse: Reverse:
oh i almost forgot to ask if that a die clash under the chin? i just looked at a website that overlays the images of the obverse and reverse so could it be from the "N" in "CENT" ?
not too sure what exactly it is... it looks like black crud in the second pic but when i look at it at an angle the light reflects off it more brightly ... here's a pic so you know what i'm talking about.. any chance this could hurt the grade?
64RD sounds like a suitable grade. Your photos aren't the best, but the luster supports nothing lower than a 64, IMO. -Brian
Yes. The upper portion of the second vertical stroke in the letter N of CENT is under the chin. And the bottom horizontal stroke of the E in ONE is to the left of the date.
If that spot is not corrosion or similar, that coins should easily get a 65 and maybe even a 66 if the luster is there. At these grades, luster is very meaningful.
i did buy this coin for less than $25 ... if it is truely ms65 rb or rd i may hold on to it .... not sure about getting it slabbed though
I wouldn't say it's full RD because of the obverse toning, but it does look to be at least 64RB. I'm no expert on them, but it does also appear to have a die clash. I too can see the top of an N sticking out from lincolns chin, and if you look at the reverse, there is a perfect outline of lincoln's upside down bust. For $25, I would've popped on that too. The one in my collection right now is only XF, and I paid $10.
i understand that my photos are as great as some people have on here but what could i do to improve them? do i need another light source to get rid of that shadow on the bottom .. any help is appreciated
