Thoughts on "UNSEARCHED ROLLS" from E-bay?

Think these are bogus, or great buys?

Personally, I am a 'tad half & half. Some look like great buys, but they all say the same thing: "Bought form an estate sale, unsearched, just rolled, etc."

    What do you think?

What's sad is people actually believe it and pay it. I've seen $10 rolls of halves selling for $15 and higher. I don't understand it.

It is not all doom and gloom like most on here seem to believe. I'm guessing that most of the posters who say it is such a waste of money have never bought "unsearched" rolls on ebay to begin with yet they seem so confident that it is a total rip off. Read my post from an older thread about wheat rolls here: http://www.cointalk.com/t199958/#post1364393

These always make me laugh. How could they know they are all full date coins, all IHC's, all this or that, etc if someone didn't check them?

Right. I may just get some for my little bro, to see if he is interested in coins, and if he find anything good... it shall be mine.

It is very hard to find good rolls on ebay, but it is possible. I bought a roll of cents and came up with 3 common IH's, an amazing AU/BU 1909, and the rest teens and twenties!!

But these kinds of rolls are few and far between near impossible to find a decent roll and it is still a gamble. Better off knowing what your getting instead of taking a risk.

Just go to the bank and buy rolls at face value. You'll save money and disappointment.

I think they are legit and let me explain. Let's say as a roll hunter, you are pulling an average of three 40% silvers per box. At about $5.00 per coin melt, that is a return of $13.50 per box. If I take those same rolls and post them on Ebay and make even one dollar per roll, minus fees, I would still be getting a higher return per box and I don't have to dump coin. In essence, these guys have created a silver lottery and could care less whether there is silver in rolls or not because they are making a better than average return than a roll searcher. Some might find silver, most do not, but guess who always wins? The guy selling a chance at silver. Just my opinion.

P.S. So if you want to gamble the roll premium on finding silver, by all means, be my guest, and I have some I could sell you, but if I could play the lotto for free, you can bet I'd never buy a ticket.

I'm talking strictly about halves. I'm not paying $15 to $20 for a $10 roll of halves when I can get it for face value whenever I want at a bank.

I think the unsearched rolls are complete scams, but I did cave the other day and purchased an unopened Brinks box of pennies. It arrived within 2 days, completely unopened, but part of me is still skeptical although I did enjoy some of the coins I received. There were probably a dozen wheat pennies, one penny in very good condition that just said "199" and another with multiple die breaks.

I was skeptical b/c at least 1 full roll was Canadian, there were at least 50 1964 D's, etc. It was such a mix that I just couldn't be sure whether it was a new scam or not, but like I said, I was still happy with the good ones that I did receive so take that for what it's worth. Most of the coins were dated from the 1960's - 1980's. I did not check as thoroughly as some would. I was specifically looking for the ultra rare coins which I found zero of or the older wheat pennies.

Just an FYI, but I paid @ $50 for $25 worth of pennies. It was a one time splurge. I am usually much more careful about how I spend our $, but I wanted to try this route once just to see what the result was.

WHAAAAAT? You paid $50 for $25 worth in cents you could have got at the bank?

There's one born every minute... I need to go make some ebay listings.

i thought he was talking about wheat cents D: ... but imagine just put 2 boxes of cents up for like $99 see if someone bites ... ship them in a medium flat rate box thats gotta be at least a $25 profit LOL i better run to the bank

LOL... I admitted to being foolish. I hate walking into the bank asking for coins. They look at me like I'm crazy! The guy didn't really make any profit off of me though...maybe $10; most was paid for shipping. It's the same deal that the mint offers for 50 cent pieces.
