I am advising everyone so you don’t make the stupid mistake that I made. This weekend, my max bid was apparently high enough to win a really nice coin (significantly below my max bid). However, when I looked for my Email invoice, all I found was the message “There was a problem with either your username or password which prevented us from bidding for you”. Like most folks, I periodically change my passwords used for Internet auction bidding. Just remember that your sniping program must also know your current password or it will not be able to place bids on your behalf at the end of the auction(s). I made this mistake this weekend & I didn’t win the coin. Not because I didn’t bid high enough but because my sniper didn’t have my current EBay password. If you change your EBay password then remember to immediately change the data in your sniping program.
Good Advice! However, to imply that you would have won the auction "significantly" below your max bid is a little misleading since you really have no idea what the "winning bidders" max bid was. It conceivable could have been one bid increment below or even above your max bid.
Yeah, I learned that lesson the hard way about 7 years ago. There was a lot I was literally watching 8 times a day for 7 days I wanted it so bad. It was going for $300, sold for $600 and I had a snipe set for $1300. I forgot I had changed my password a week before. I still dream about that lot. It was NICE.
Of course, you are correct. If my max bid was properly placed, then I would have either won the item or caused the other guy to pay much more money. There is no guaranty to win when you bid or snipe on Ebay.
Yeah, but in your mind it was yours and technology hosed you. Makes me sleep better at night thinking that way.
Not as bad as when someone sets a snipe for $850 for an item worth only $300 max because of incorrect description, the seller changed corrected the description once i pointed that out but that didn't stop snipes from biding against each other and ending at $850. There is a reason why the auction was only at $250 with a min left .
Technology didn't hose him, he's the one who forgot to tell such technology his password changed.
Thanks to everyone that found this little public service announcement useful. I'd like to especially thank Medoraman for sharing his similar experience & all those that sent me PMs.
