British India Great looking coins all! Especially those Victorian Rupees posted by cool__guy! I was heavy into British India coins before I got into Ancients, here are some of my examples from my personal collection. I love the designs, so beautiful. -- *Now as far as your question about the 1862 Rupee, my understanding was that even after 1862, they continued to strike Silver coins with the date '1862' and would add a dot below for each year after 1862..... now that is just what I heard from a friend, it could be wrong. -- First, here are two pictures of my 1900 incuse B Rupee, it still has alot of good detail on the crown she wears. I like it, it was one of my first silver British Indian coins.... also here is a 1906 Calcutta Mint, 2 Annas coin of Edward VII (the holder it is in somewhat obscures the date in this photo... and here is a pic of a type I always liked.... the ones struck in Lahore (present day Pakistan) you can see the 'L' mintmark at the bottom, right beneath the centered flower at 6 o'clock. This one is from 1944. And last but not least, the square bronze one... that is from the Indian State of Mewar, it is a 1/4 Anna from 1942. I have quite a few more variations and types, some nicer, some less... these are just some of my favorites.... I will post my #1 favorite which is a sea salvaged 1808 East India Company coin in very high grade. It is one of my favorite coins of all my British Commonweath type coins.
Great and very interesting post Rexesq.Especially the Lahore mint mark is completely new thing i have learned here. Why is that your coin collection has shifted from British-india to ancient coins?.Also,Could you let us know What kind of ancient coins you are collecting these days?Looking forward to see your favorite 1808 East India company coin.Thank you
East India Company 1808 10 Cash Copper Coin This EIC 1808 10 Cash coin was recovered from the shipwreck of 'The Admiral Gardner' you can find alot more info on it online, try google, anyhow it had set off with loads of these freshly minted, uncirculated 1808 coins and such, so when it sank, they were preserved in uncirculated condition, however this specimen I have, looks extraordinary to me, and much nicer than all the others I have encountered personally. Great design and wonderful coloration.... and since Siberian Man was talking about what he paid for his... I figure it fair to share what I paid for this one.... and it was only $8 USD..... I got a great deal, it was around 10 years back though. **also I added a photo of an East India Company 1841 2 Annas in Silver of Queen Victoria, sadly it is holed, of course not by me, I would never do such a thing to a coin, I actually found it in the '25c / 5x coins for a dollar' bin at my coin shop a while back heh, not bad for .20 cents.... I have found some good stuff in their '5x for a buck' bin including quarter sized .900silver coins.... so they miss some things that go in there, or something...... anyhow back to India, I love the look of the 2 Annas of Queen Victoria, and want to put it on a chain for my wife, she likes it as well, she also likes Queen Victoria. Of course I just love this EIC 1808 10 Cash, and it will likely stay in my collection forever
Well I still like the British India and British commonwealth coins, and if I see ones I do not have or ones I like, I will still either buy them or wish I had money to buy them heh..... But lately I have found Ancient Roman coinage more interesting, and have really enjoyed collecting Roman coins, mostly only silver Roman coins, from the first century AD on through the 3rd century..... Silver Antoninianii of Caracalla and Elagabalus as well as Silver Tetradrachmai struck in Syria of certain Emperors.... quite historical and fascinating stuff, as is the more recent history of British India and other countries.... So I suppose I still collect just about everything.... I always did like silver coins the most though, as well as small coins, such as Maundy coins of which I have many, and the British 'threehalfpence' or 'one and one half pence' silver coin..... of which I only have one... of 1839, but it is not too far from unc and has a prooflike obverse. It was a gift from a British man I worked for in 2005, and he was 96 when he gave it to me..... he died a few years later, but gave me many coins while I was with him and got me into world coins a bit more than otherwise I think...he left me some nice maundy coins which I treasure... all Victorian.
Not British India But.... I know this is post British Rule anda fairly recent 10 paise.... but I thought you might find it interesting, I sure did..... it is quite cool I think. That metal part is raised as you can kinda see in the second pic.... but it was hard to show.
A note to all forum members...I am willing to sell the above Silver and Copper coin collection if a good offer is offered.Interested members are requested to PM me their offer.thank you.
Nice coins. I am a British India collector, but I must "report out." I am not honorable enough for the offering.
