Part of the problem with determining NT from AT is that many people have these preconceived notions that certain things are factual - like color progression. But it is not factual, it is merely typical. Ever hear the saying truth is stranger than fiction ? Well with coins NT is truth and AT is fiction. And when it comes to toning just about anything that man can do, mother nature has already done. She may not have done it very often, but she's done it.
Yes, with that added info and seeing the obverse, I certainly agree. Natural toning. With all the oportuninty that is around to make money on nicely toned coins, I question everything. If there is a way to make a buck, there is someone there to figure out how to do it. Since it is extremely difficult in some cases to determine AT vs NT, I look at it like a puzzle, and the more pieces you have the better. Even though one individual piece might not be enough to make a determination, when you add up all the pieces, the picture becomes clearer. Nice coin BTW Mike
It is wise, I think, to be skeptical. Once you lose your objectivity or skepticism you are at a much greater risk of being fooled. Without a clear chain of custody, we can only guess. In the end, however, it is just about impossible to be sure.
It's not just extremely difficult in many cases Mike, it's impossible. All you, all anybody, can do is guess.
Agreed, it is just my hope that armed with info and education you can tilt the scale in your direction. Mike
come now spill the beans on how to make AT coins. if you tell me your secretsi will tell you mine but i can only get golden and red toning the blue and green doesnt come out right. ok i can also get silver toning on golden coins and that my friend is no mean achievement
