Before alien spacecraft were interned at Roswell, NM the military base there housed Japanese-American internees during WWII.
This is one of my favorite Series 1976 $2 FRN First Day of Issue — It is postmarked "Roswell NV Sta No 2":
lettow: I do not have any knowledge on this item you posted with the exception that it is more than likely significant, if you post its image. I like it..but would like to know a little more about it. Thanks..
There really is not that much more to it. During WWII, the military base at Roswell, NM was the site of an internment camp for Japanese-Americans. Those who worked in the camp received their pay in chits that came in booklets. The chits could be spent at facilities on the installation. A similar practice was also followed in POW camps in the United States. POWs were paid the same as the equivalent rank in the US military for daily labor (an enlisted man earned 80 cents per day) and could spend their chits at camp canteens. When the war was over and they were repatriatedm, the prisoners were given the balance in their account in the form of a Military Payment Order that could only be cashed by US military finance officers overseas. Here is an example of one of these items.
Let me get this straight! We paid German POW's, and the Germans just shot our POW's in the back the head down near the tree line for s%@#'s and grins? I know we were and are good people, but God Bless there is a point!
Nice note Clay, been meaning to get down there this summer on my way to Vega's! I'll probably have to drive cause I might be on the no fly list, for despising the Private Federal Reserve Scam, and believe our Federal Government would serve US best if they broke off and sunk out in the middle of the Atlantic - But that's just me? LOL BTW: Don't they have a motel out there called the "Little-Alie-Inn"? Might be worth going when they have their once a year Alien parade. I'll be the dude with the Ron Paul T-Shirt. That's right, no mask required for me?
