Here is trivia for ya's. I want to know what the LARGEST and the SMALLEST coins that were minted. Minted between 1800 and 2012. Non comm. Coins used for payment. Anywhere in the world.
No. Not what I meant. No one is gonna spend a kilo gold coin. I mean coins used as regular ol coins. Like the dime, half dollar, farthing, etc.
I think the Isle of Yap wins this round and unlike the ATB pucks and various bullion monster coins these actually circulate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rai_stones
I think I may have a candidate for smallest somewhere around here...I'll have to take a picture, weigh it, and measure it. I have no idea where it's from...been meaning to ask the forum. THE SEARCH BEGINS!
FOUND IT!!! Okay, so this tiny little copper fella' weighs in at .59 g, measures about 10 mm in diameter, and looks like this: What is this?
not sure if it was legal tender or not, but I like Panama's 1976 PS17 set, containing a huge 20 balboa sterling coin and a tiny 2 ½ Centesimos coin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-Republ...661?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2e9dde9115
Well I just searched through my 17th century-current coin catalogs Turns out I discovered several typos, such as the Bahrain 1965-66, 83 1 fils coin being listed as 1.5mm rather than 15mm. A couple India coins being listed as 1.6mm and 2mm. I believe the 11th-12th century Fanam is indeed the smallest at around 2mm.
From my Country , 1 Fils = 0.0026 US$, it was used for few years only then cancelled, now the smallest denomination is 5 Fils = 0.0132 US$. the 1983 coin is a part of Sterling Silver proof set.
