I managed to sort through $50 in pennies.

Found 13 wheats. The fruits of my effort were not very good, but I had fun doing it.

That's .13 wheats per roll. Would take 8 rolls to find one wheat.

    6.5 wheats per box.

Would take about 16 boxes to find 100 wheats. All of this of course is just going from the calculations.

These wheat pennies are worth about 3 cents each. So 39 cents value for 13 cents.

That's a lot of work just to find 13 wheats. I don't think I will CRH pennies again.

I ordered a box of 500 halves. Will be here friday, wish me luck.

Hey, just remember. A whole dang lot of people check halves for silver, it may produce silver, you may get a skunk. But with pennies, you find coppers, wheats, and foreign.

I had a similar thing happen to me this past weekend Detecto. I did 4 boxes of Nickels in one day, and ZERO on the War Nickel finds. Did find 1 dateless Buff though. Still that was enough to keep me away from Nickels for a while. I think I'll stick with halves for now... :)

With Pennies I just flip them over to the reverse and look for Wheats this way, that way I don't have to check all the dates. I stopped hoarding Copper awhile ago, so Wheats are all I look for when I do Pennies.

Is it just me or does searching 5000 cents looking only for wheats seem a waste of time? Chances are quite good that while pulling your 13 wheats you may have passed over something much more valuable than forty cents. JMHO

Hey, that is only from ONE box. Do you search halves and always get the same results? The results are almost always different (Unless it is a skunk)!

Did you check for WAMs? CAMs? Doubled Dies? RPMs? Struck Through Errors?

This is pretty much the reason I only do 1 box of pennies a week currently. I average 15 or so wheats per box, and the foreign/randomness is a nice way to switch things up in skunky silver weeks, but I don't feel comfortable upping my penny volume until I have a better grasp on what I should be looking for.

Kinda a silly question but is there a nicely organized (and idiot proof lol) list of lincolns worth keeping? Or at least somewhere I can get a crash course?

Took me 3 hours just to look at the backs, I don't even want to think how long it would take me to look at the front and back of each coin and look for errors.

    No pain, no gain:

    Wheat- 3 cents each.

    WAMs and CAMS- $5 - $750

Uh, I'd buy a decent-shape '92 CAM for $750 in a heartbeat and flip it for a few thousand.

LOL! Me too! I was just ballparking and posting while working. You're correct.....up to a few thousand!

But if Detecto is only concerned about the wheats, all the more for someone who's willing to invest the time.

    '92 CAM is probably a $10k coin...

    '92-D CAM is a $2k coin.

Have you known anybody on this forum that's found a CAM 92 since the Roll Searchers Thread first started?

I remember someone who was new to the site posting about one they found and asking some questions RE valuation and whatnot... claimed their dad found it. But they weren't a member for very long before they posted that thread.

And the chance of finding them is 1 in how many million? If they are that expensive they are probably rare as hens teeth.

I would agree on that, I live on the west coast, so I see many 92-D's out here. I have probably slogged through several thousand of these with nothing panning out. Not yet at though ;)

USMC2110 just found a 1995 DDO while searching a cent box. A photo is posted at this link in the error section:

If you only inspect for wheat ears, then obviously you miss out on a lot of fun looking for the major DDOs and other varieties that could be worth some big $.
