Hey guys, hope there would be some use out of this type of thread. But I've always been curious what the various bank boxes and rolls look like. I know in other posts, we've always eluded to Brinks, Dunbar, and etc. to describe the finds and saturation of certain coins. But what exactly do they look like physically? I generally go through my local B of A for my cents and they're armored services provide the Dunbar boxes. The photo references will help me out and i'm sure the newbies to the sport will want to know the differences as well.
As far as I know, there's two types. Brinks boxes, and the other companies all use the String boxes. At least personally, I've only seen the two types of boxes.
Well I can get them in bags sometimes too directly from the coin counter at my credit union. I sometimes have the best luck with those.
Yes. Actually I'm a little confused how people can say the coins you dump at TD end up at Chase when the Chase rolls are all paper wrapped, while TD rolls are clear plastic...
Just because TD uses Brinks for ordering doesn't mean that TD uses the same service to process their change...
These are the only two types of boxes I've seen. The type of box on the left has Strings & Sons rolls, the type of box on the right has plastic rolls. P.S. Is there a "proper" way of opening the Strings boxes? I've been tearing apart the bottom flaps (the side opposite the holes), but it feels like there must be a way that doesn't destroy the structural integrity of the box.
Like Merc had pointed out, a couple of the banks I deal with go through several armored services that provide the boxed money and paper. For example, B of A I deal with use to carry Brinks clear rolls which I found some pretty nice stuff. Loaded wheat rolls, indian cents, lots of errors and variations. Now that bank and the other B of A's in the area use Dunbar. While still a decent mix, doesn't have near the volume of "unique" coins, which also leads me to believe their sorter has a reject filter tray that collects the stuff I want. And finally my other bank uses the String boxes, I always get full boxes of new cents and nothing else, needless to say, I don't go to them for the boxes. They are reserved to dump. And the biggest gripe of all...nobody will order me cases of halves. I've been to 6 different branded banks and to no avail...
