I don't know, $226 is a little more than I would like to spend on a new set. I would rather buy and older(original) U.S. Mint set for that price. I do have a lot of Canadian coins, but most of them are older. I think the Canadian mint puts out to many commeratives for my taste. As does the U.S. mint to a point too. It saturates the market and the lowly collector like my self cannot afford to keep up with it. I think I will just stick with my Newfoundland coins. It is hard enough trying to find good examples of those to be able to buy new sets let alone.

Hey you dont have to justify it to me. I tend to agree with you on this one. I guess i should say that there "should" be more than 20k people globaly, who find this set attractive enough and interesting enough to be desirable.

Im happy to be getting mine. I dont care what this one does value wise. Not looking to profit. Just wanted a nice Canadian set for my collection. Thought this one was really neat.

I generally avoid buying NCLT directly from the RCM.
As has already been pointed out, they generally don't hold their issue value and can be had on the secondary market for less, sometimes much less, a few years after they are issued.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose, because I think the War of 1812 dollar coin is butt ugly. The soldiers appear stiff and unnatural - the one on the right is particularly odd looking.
An issue of 20,000 may sound miniscule to US collectors but there just aren't that many collectors of RCM NCLT to justify much higher mintages except in extremely rare cases.

Don't get it. There one that not all coins are silver and no gold plating is coming in spring for 90 something dollars.

FWIW, it is a smaller mintage than most items they have out right now. To me it would seem that it should be one of the more popular items they offer this year. Mayne for a few years. But maybe nobody wants them. In 5 years they may be forgotten about.
If this is the only set like this they make, I think it could hold its value.

I just got the Brilliant Silver Dollar. Not really interested in the whole year thing. The brilliant has less of a mintage than the proof and is cheaper.

Its a nice looking set and I almost jumped on it. But the price is pushing me away, then I read that 20,000 isn't exactly a low mint run when it came to Canadian coins. I still wouldn't mind getting one if I see one cheap later on though.

I looked hard at it because of the silver cent. But the RCM makes way too many "collectibles". I mean they put out more limited editions than Thomas Kincaid. Since it's more than 3x melt, I am opting out of this one and getting a few Washingtons instead. I already know how many of those were minted and although I am sure the mint would never intentionally misstate the future mintage, it's possible high demand could cause them to mint a few more ?

    Just sayin.

Are you sure they are all gold plated? The Looney dollar looks like it is bronze plated. That would for-sure be a numismatic first! Kind of like a silver plated 1 ounce gold ingot..,,

A mintage of 20,000 isn't low mintage for ANY modern coin in my opinion.

Oh mintage number? Value appreciation? I must live in a planet where money is only an intermedian to further my numismatic taste.

Cool! It is an impressive proof set this year. I would think individually, the silver one cent would be HIGHLY desirable. The color of the leaves is awesome against that silver background. It's more of a pink gold. Perfectly done. The polar bear on the 2 dollar looks very 3D with the plating. Every coin is like a work of art. I've always liked the Loon dollars. There's far more artistic value to the set overall, compared with the US set.

FWIW, it says on the certificate that my set is 12,214/20,000.

Okay; you guys should really stop posting this stuff because, if you don't, I might end up buying 1 of these. :)
