i am new to this forum so please excuse this question as probably remedial...when you say you are looking thru rolls of halves what kind of halves do you guys find...is it simply the 40 percent kennedy's or are there older ones as well......also can you search thru dime and quarter rolls with any success? The only coins i have ever had any luck or fun finding are war nickels and wheaties so i was just wondering if there were still any treasures out there to be had by searching the other rolls....thanks for any help or suggestions you guys may have because like you i find it relaxing to look thru the coin rolls and am getting sick of having so many wheaties and coppies (what i call copper pennies). Thanks Ya'll!

With half dollars you can find 40% silver and 90% silver coins. 90% half dollars are anything before 1965, 40% silver are 1965-1970. I suggest keeping 1987-P and 1987-D half dollars too because they had a low mintage and weren't meant for circulation. That also applies to any half dollars made after 2001. And of course if you find any proofs I'd keep them too.

I have gotten 18 silver dimes from $2500 of dimes.

I've only gone through ~$900 of quarters and didnt find any silver.

I love looking for war nickels, buffalos, and wheat cents too. If you don't have more than a few hundred dollars to spend on rolls I'd just stick with the nickels personally. By the way, the silver dates for dimes and quarters is anything before 1965 in case you didn't know :)

I generally look for these: silver kennedys.jpg Gold Kennedys.jpg
Silver and gold plated (or colored, somehow) halves. QVC type stuff. Just kidding. But when I opened that first roll that was all solid white edges, my heart skipped a beat. Until I realized it was all garbage.

    ^^this.

the halves are more profitable if you are wanting to stack silver and have like at least a grand to rotate into coin hunting. If you are using a small amount of money or looking for instant gratification keep going like you are. If I get too many skunks that is when I pull out the pennies so I can pull some copper and wheaties. Feels great to find a wheat cent if you have been in a slump!
