Plus Attribution Fee of $24.00, membership fee, etc.......... THINK FIRST!!!!!! Before you decide the service of TPG.....If your coin is not so valuable I think you do not need their services to slab your coin.:thumb::thumb:
What does PCGS have to do with the Insurance cost and Shipping Cost? Now the Grading fees is all theirs if you want to talk about that. And the "handling" isn't much. I'm with the others. Only send premium stuff to them or send lots so it'll get bulk submissions. It's your call
Give anacs a try not the highest rated company but not too bad plus they have a dollars and cents special right now
:too-funny: One in every crowd. There is no best grading service. But there are terrible ones. The top grading companies all have their skeletons.
Yes. And the worst part is that you have to let your coins travel by themselves, sometimes both ways. No one takes care of your coins like you do when you have them in your possession or are watching them 100 percent of the time.
I believe that is the reason for their prices. To keep people from sending every wheat cent they find in change to them for grading.
You really have to decide on why you are sending your coins in. For me, I had a few coins that I knew I was going to keep forever and I just liked the fact that they would be authenticated and put in a protective holder. It seems like grading them would make coins easier to sell, if thats your intent, since there are price guides and such when you have a grade determined by a reputable company. If you only wanted to submit a few coins, I would suggest you take the route I took. I found a local coin dealer who was PCGS authorized, he let me use one of his forms to send in the coins, so I got around the membership fees. I waited until I had 4 coins to send in, because the shipping tiers change starting with 5 coins. I submitted them under economy, so for the whole order it was $18 x 4 : grading tier + $8 : handling fee + $17 return shipping + around $8 for priority shipping there and some insurance. So in total it cost about $105 for 4 coins to be graded, or $26 per coin. Yea, that is crazy expensive, and anything less than 4 coins and the per coins gets even higher. For me, I would say it was absolutely worth it, but I probably won't do it again. Also, separate question, why ARE most people sending coins in to be graded. For me, one was a coin that I found that was special, and 3 were from my grandads collection, so I am not planning on selling any of them. Do most people send in coins that they have found? Or bought on ebay? Or why? I'm curious.
Attribution to be add up, If your Morgan 1882 0/S Mintmark, This one example of attribution. If you do not want to pay for attribution Fee, They will only graded as a normal one, Just let it say MS 60. But with attribution, They will add like MS 60 Vam ##. that will be additional $ 24.00.
That's a really good point. Insured or not, once it's gone....it's gone. I'd rather find a reputable and reliable resource within arms reach than ship an "irreplaceable" off to never never land, in the care of the US Postal Service, or any other handler. No thank you.
