Someone in Spokane, WA is selling a similar set for $1200: http://spokane.craigslist.org/clt/2864906852.html Is that a similar value you would place on yours, Vess?
That set is actually located a ways south of Spokane in Clarkston. I grew up in Spokane . Used to shop at Red Line coins on Garland a lot.
I went back and looked it up just for you. I keep pretty good documentation on purchase history. I actually started this set in May of 2008! So my cheapest one was a decent MS 54-D for $7. Melt value today for it is 12.73 so a few of them I got good prices on back then. I've got a little over a grand invested in these and I figure they are worth right around that range. Maybe slightly more now. A couple of mine could be a little better. That set on Craigslist might be a little better than mine, but I'd want to view it in person to see how good it is. It's difficult to take pictures of an entire album. Basically they all just look 'shiny'. He may be telling the truth but you really wouldn't know what you were getting until you had it in hand. Sometimes you can find good deals on completed sets like that but you just don't know until you have it. Would be risky but may be fair though. That's an average of $33 a coin. Some are less than that and some are much more than that. It's in the ballpark. I've seen some sets offered on ebay a lot cheaper than that, but it's really difficult to compare the quality of one set to another from pics. You have to look at a lot of these to know what's really good. There's a lot of MS examples that have distracting problems. HTHs.
You could always use the extra slots for "Bugs Bunny" and/or other varieties. Re: FBL - I assume that you are aware of the difference between NGC & PCGS FBL requirements. Nice job! Chris
I prefer Intercept albums. Especially if you're doing a MS set like this. I tried to get blast white examples and I would like them to stay that way. I also own a buffalo nickel album and their US Type set album. The hard slip covers that the albums slide into are nice. It's like double protection. I like the dark green color too. My method for not sliding the plastic on the coins is to push the coin all the way down (with gloves on) and then I just don't slide out the back slide. Then, if you only slide out the top slide, it will clear all the coins and not rub the high spots.
The bugs bunny variety really doesn't grab me. I know some people like them but for whatever reason I think it's kind of a goofy variety. If I'm not mistaken, I believe PCGS requires the top and bottom lines to have FBL where as NGC only requires the top line? I could be wrong.
congrats on completing the set!!! It looks awesome and I LOVE the Intercept Shield album. Can we see the reverses?
Nice going. It feels great to finish a set. But then, again, you always want to upgrade something. It' a good looking set.
Congratulations! I'm jealous. I'm thinking of getting into the Franklins myself after I get my Kennedys done
