Its hard to belive in a free market world that a site as big as ebay had to result to this to protect some that can not tell a fake from a real coin. Wonder what else will be coming down the tube to protect those that do not want to be held liable for their actions. Also maybe now the same fakes that have copy on them will be sold anyway but without that word copy on it. I think the market will be even more at risk with this new rule in place.
I wouldn't go that far, but I don't think it will completely fix the problem either. I wish there was a fix, but somehow dishonest people will continue to make these coins, and find a way for dishonest sellers to sell them here.
It will be for awhile because people will have the mistaken impression that since eBay has now banned replicas and copies that everything encountered will be real. This will lead them to be less cautious and some people will get burned. As reports of these fakes trickle out people will start being more suspicious again and things will become better. Not great, just better and I can't say just how much better.
I can gurantee that a lot of the ones listed on ebay with copy on them were being delivered without the copy stamp. With ebay not allowing them anymore it will make it a little harder for buyers and sellers of illegal ones to do business. I commend ebay for taking this step, I think it's good for the hobby.
I agree with you. Will it completely fix the problem? Of course not. This was implemented through pressure from ebay customers. We need to find the next step to crack down on counterfeits, of whatever else if plaguing our hobby, and keep on ebay's rearend to add more pressure to these wrong doers. Yes, it is an endless cycle. But, we have strength in numbers. It's a start!
Nice birthday present to me. I've feverishly pestered eBay to change their policy on this for a long time.
