1: Special Olympics Commem. - Hideous, just hideous obverse. The reverse is just uninspired. Overall the ugliest coin I've ever seen, regardless of country. 2: Susie B. dollar - another butt ugly old bag on the obverse. The reverse is OK though. 3: Any of the Presidential dollars - I liked the original Shell Oil medallions better! I like Ike dollars and think Ike looks just fine on the obverse. Both style reverses are attractive also. Then there are designs that, while not actually ugly, are just plain and not attractive: shield nickels, 2 cent pieces and any of the 3 cent pieces immediately come to mind. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and taste can not be disputed.
Morgan Dollar Kennedy Half Washington Quarter Standing Liberty Quarter Anything U.S. from the late 1700s All State Quarters All Presidential Dollars
wow jcakcoin, quite a list! I think some of the flowing hair/draped bust coins from the late 1700s are quite nice. With the exception of the one I posted
Susan B. Anthony obverse The First Spouse series minus the Liberty coins. I know gold can make almost anything look good but if you want an unbiased opinion look at the designs of the FS bronze medals.
I secretly refer to the 1995 SO$ as "that Steven Tyler coin". I say secretly because my wifey is a big Aerosmith fan so when she's around I throw Mick Jagger under the bus. I hope it's not a representation of a real lady, rather a stylisation of overcoming adversity. If it is a real person, apologies madam - considering the ugly people celebrated on coins from Cromwell, to King George, to Lincoln, to Churchill I'd say you were in pretty good company.
I'm not crazy about Ike's, Franklin's, SBA's, and most presidential dollars. The Wisconsin commemorative always struck me as rather blah. Lance.
I love franklins! the only thing i do like about that commerative is the pickaxe since my grandfather was a miner in MI.
Thank you for 'grounding' us on this one Kasia. We so tend to get carried away with our revelry that we loose sight of what a tremendous contribution this Lady made. T. James Ferrell and Jamie Wyeth should be shot. I only wonder what Louis Black might say regarding this issue...... OK, I'll go stand in the corner.
I never liked Lincoln Memorial cents; a boring reverse based on a boring building (the only impressive thing about it is its size, which is not apparent on the coin). Wheats are great, the '09 series is okay, and the shield is rather blah.
