    Seller's feedback:

    1) It was $6,000
    2) Sounds like it was a lie
    3) Closed safe prices just went up 15%

Wow, do you know how many Boardwalks I can buy with that? And according to the article, if the buyer used a blowtorch or plasma cutter to cut the top off, wouldn't the high heat entering the safe destroy the cash or any other paperwork inside? Again, sounds like a story made up for our "slow news day".

I'd imagine buying a safe from a seller, the seller would provide the keys or combo to it. Why would anyone buy a safe that is advertised as empty and then have to break into it? ;)

Edit: Oh, I guess linking from the Huffington article they mention those details that he didn't have the combination. That's too many different articles.

Yes, I read the article where he sold it on ebay but didn't know what the combo was. Didn't know there was another reporting article.

Either way here comes the rush of newly discovered locked safes, totally unsearched popping up on ebay lol.

I'm not sure about the credibility of this story. Sounds like someone maybe wanted to get in the papers with a fantasy story.

then this story is a bit more trustworthy (altough i also have my toughts about this)

    F
or those who cant read dutch, here is my translation of the story

In Franse some builders found golden coins worth €750000 (about $987000) when they where removing a ceiling in an old house.
When one of the workers placed his crowbar in the ceiling suddenly he got hit by a bunch of coins falling out of it.

Years ago the house was from a French wineproducer who did business with Americans during the 1930 prohibition (when alcohol was ilegal)
They think the owner then sold wine and got paid with these golden coins to supply his customers with ilegal alcohol.

17 Kilogram's of gold was found.
497 coins with face value of $20 and dates between 1851 and 1928

All that nice, original, lightly-circulated gold, with only a few fresh dents... :(

Reminds me of the Storage Unit reality program where experts bid on full abandoned units. In one, the winning bidder, a husband/wife team thought he hit the jackpot with lots of safes. It turned out there was just a lot of cheesey collectible material, but I may not have seen the end of that program.

Someone could just buy a bunch of used safes that look chock full of PMs, but with clad and modern material, etc., and try to get the ebay bidders excited enough to win the group for a sky high price; I'm sure lots of people have tried that already.

True or not, this is great marketing for the seller. And free advertising too.
