I picked up 4 rolls of Sacagawea and Presidential dollars today after the teller tipped me off that these were cashed in by a little old lady getting rid of her late husband's collection of mint sets. Out of 100 coins, 43 were proofs and 44 were matte looking P/D coins. The other 13 are somewhere in between, but they're a different shade of gold and all surfaces are mirrored similar to a proof. Are these gold plated? Maybe out of some sort of Franklin Mint-type set? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Tthe ones on the left look like the gold plated set that my brother in law bought off of some tv add or something(he didnt know any better)
To clarify, the coin on the left is the 2010S proof. The coin on the right is a 2010P, it has a matte type finish. The coin in the center is the one in question as it is a 2010D but with a very bright shiny gold almost like it's gold plated.
I agree about the left and right ones. However there is very much glare on the center one. Try a pic with the camera a little bit to the right or left. It may reduce the glare so we might be better able to help you with the center one. The coins intended for circulation have an over-all shiny finish as opposed to the ones in the UNC sets with a matte finish and proofs having frosted devices with a mirror field.
Tried some more pictures but it's just so reflective it's hard to get rid of the glare. I just dumped $250 worth of these gold dollars, I should've kept a couple to compare these to. So there were mint sets with matte coins in this series? Do you have a link where I can read up about these?
