An update on my previous post. In my third roll from the second box I just scored a 1972 DDO. I think it's #4, but have to do more research. That's the first one I've ever found. Also scored 2 wheaties so far. This could be a killer box.
I love finding rolls of all copper pennies, there is this one bank I go to that I get rolls of rolled copper pennies almost consistently, just picked some of these rolls up today
I am planning on keeping them for a long time, maybe 30 or so years. Right now, though, they can't be sold easily for melt.
I interpreted this to mean that he has found 2 uncirculated wheats in the past (from say 1954 and 1958, for example) and that the oldest wheat he has found was from 1910.
I finally finished my second bank box of Lincolns. The end results were pretty much the same as the first box. So, out of 5000 cents the tally is: Pre-1982 1314 26.28% D Mint 241 10.18% S Mint 8 0.16% Shield 297 5.94% Only 3 D mints ’09 Comm 17 0.34% All P mint Canadian 30 0.60% 1953 earliest date Wheat 39 0.78% 1911 earliest date The second box gave up TWO 1972 DDO-003 coins. I had never found one before and to get two in one box was phenomenal. I also found my first Proof from circulation in the second box, a pretty beat up 1977S. It’s been fun, but keeping track of all this doubles the time involved searching a box. I only wanted to get an estimate of what the average box would yield, and this seems like valid numbers. At least here on the East Coast.
I would not be very happy if the mint stopped making cents... where is the unlike button for that? Sad face for the "Death to pennies" thread.
IHC finds are a rush. The first I found, I saw the reverse and the first thing that came to mind was "what country is this from?" then after a second, I realized what it was. I've found 3 so far, an 1893, a 1906, and a 1907. And I took a big break from searching, so that's only from about 65 boxes searched. Even found my first Cent proof, a 1962. Not great, but better than any of the nickel proofs I've found. And regarding the post about saving coppers, I used to sell 2 box lots ($50 face) of copper cents on ebay. It's really not worth it, unless you really need the cash. I wouldn't make more than 5 bucks or so per lot. A $50 face lot would sell for $80 or less, and after fees and shipping, and my time, it was almost pointless. So now I just keep a few boxes around and don't save any more that aren't better condition coppers.
One of the convenience stores here uses those automatic change dispensers so they don't have to count out coins. I got this 1908 IH from one of those dispensers. Just 2 quick pictures, not good resolution.
I found a red small date 1960 D last night in a roll and thought I had something special, but when I checked I found out they are pretty common.
