I ended up receiving a second chance offer after being out bid by a small amount a handful of years back on an auction.
Did not check the e-mail until the next evening. And there it was, Boy was I surprised. That was the first time that had ever happened.
If the other bidder had not been one of those e-bay idiots, I would have missed out on the 73 Nova all original except paint for the Mrs. that she was able to drive home.
    There is always Hope

As a new seller handling quite a bit of volume, ebay seems to have a few glitches in their system. One of them is their 2nd chance offer system. If someone doesn't make payment within 72 hours, and you give a 2nd chance offer, than the first guy (non payer) can still make payment even after the 2nd guy has accepted the 2nd chance offer and made payment. Then you have the first individual upset (who has the ability to leave negative feedback) although a sale has been made to the 2nd individual.

Still the only game in town. I don't want to consign coins worth less than $1000 to Heritage and I don't sell on Teletrade.

But the ones who actually follow your requests are exactly the ones you want to bid. They are the one who will pay and teh ones who do not bother to email you are teh ones you can do nothing about, but they are the most likely to NOT pay.

Why is all of this happening? Because there are more complaints coming from the buyers than there are complaints coming from sellers. That's why their "customer service" oriented policies are driven to the buyers, because they want them to have a great experience so they can feel confident in selling their product on their site in the future. All in all, eBay will cater to the new buyers, because they are the foundation to the Generation Z of their company. Which is the new business model if they want to stay unique and competitive in the marketplace. Screw the seasoned professionals who have jumpstarted eBay from day one, ultimately that's their motivation.

?? I'm not catching your drift/response. Of course it "may reduce your selling success"... or it may reduce your selling unsuccess.. as in this case.

    What are buyer requirements?

You can block buyers from bidding on or purchasing your items by specifying buyer requirements. You can block buyers who:
    • Don't have a PayPal account
    • Have unpaid items recorded on their account
    • Have a primary shipping address in countries you don’t ship to
    • Have reportedly violated eBay policies
    • Have a Feedback score lower than the number you specify
    • Are currently winning or have bought 1-100 of your items in the last 10 days (you can specify the number)

Ebay only allows sellers to block buyers that have a feedback score equal to or lower than -1,-2 or -3. You cannot block a buyer with a feedback score of zero or higher.

Below is what mine says regarding blocking buyers/bidders based upon feedback:

    Feedback Limitations-01.jpg Feedback Limitations-02.jpg

In a nutshell, total feedback score of -3 or feedback score of 5 or less.

I have never given negative feedback to a seller (I only buy on eBay, not sell). I even gave positive feedback to a seller where the coin got lost in the mail. It was a total $1.50 for a IHC, with no tracking. He gave great communication, we just concluded it was lost. I provided positive feedback because he seemed sincere and honest. Somewhere in USPS land is an envelope with a pretty decent Indian Head awaiting for an owner. :thumb:

You can only block a buyer with a feedback score of 5 or less if he has purchased from you in the recent past. You set this in the preferences screen.

If a randon person bids on your item you can only block him if his feedback score is negitive one or less. There is no way to prevent the "new guy" from bidding on your item unless you can cancel his bid. Would ebay want to lose a sale to a potential life long customer...... no way.

Well the problem is you don't know what kind of person a seller or buyer could be. You can put up all the requirements you want or try to screen as best as you can. But that doesn't mean you're guaranteed to get a perfect buyer/ seller. There are always what ifs and what could be, the best thing is to hope to get a good person to deal with.

I sell a lot on ebay. what I have learned is that buyers with lower feedback usually pay faster than those with high feedback. at least thats what I have experienced.

buyers with 50-900 range feedback seem to be the best buyers. (not always)

buyers with under 50 feedback you may have to wait a few days to get paid. (not always)

buyers with a couple of thousand feedback can be complicated. you have to provide perfect service or they may complain(not always) they seem to take longer to pay(not sure why)

not every transaction will work out but thats ebay for you. I still think EBAYS biggest problem is there FEES

I get the feeling that there are as many threads (or more) on the forums from unhappy buyers than unhappy sellers. Maybe it is that the sellers agree with the threads where sell side is presented and visa versa in the other direction. So I have a slight disagreement that ebay is all for the "buyers". In my experience they are fairly even handed.

As to fees, I have been with them since they were called East Bay and were mainly stamps, then coins, then everything from cars to _____. Fees were at first none, then very low, then more, then as they are now. They are slanted to impinge on the seller, as they have the burden of proof ( If they can't sell whatever eventually, they have used a lot of resources and must pay). There are no buyers direct fees, although I have heard mention that a subscription idea has been floating around for buyers ( too many looky-loos according to their internal stats). If you have tried advertising that can hit buyers world around, you know what the expenses are, even in numismatic magazines. Yes, you can use Craig's list and other, but the safety isn't there. Ebay is not perfect, but they have been very good for the collecting hobbies, and general home based economies and we would be sunk without them, IMO.

Thats right!!!..I had a set of 70's that a bidder with 100% feedback (475) won, then would'nt pay and did'nt answer
my messages. finally paid after 3 days...you never know

This is purely speculation from someone who doesn't use ebay (yet), but maybe because they are spending a lot of time watching/paying for other auctions?

that makes sense. when buying in volume you can close multiple purchases at once even from multiple sellers. so maybe some of the big buyers only close out there bills every couple of days.
