I have a lincoln cent that was double struck. The cool thing is there was a wire or a staple that got stuck where is was double struck. It's very cool. I can't find any info on error coin values for coins that have a retained staple. Any idea where I find the value, or do you know what it is worth? Thanks!
I thought it would be PMD, but I can clearly see Lincoln's bust impression on the little piece. Did you find this in circulation?
How cool is this?! Two of my favorite errors combined! .....I have a birthday coming up this year... hint, hint
Did you check for a WAM reverse? Give us a picture of the reverse. Based on what I'm seeing, I'd guesstimate $50 or so.
No, it's garbage - worthless. That said, I'll be more than happy to take its burden off of your hands. Just kidding - awesome find!
Yes it would, a lot of the WAM die markers are known, especially for the 1999. If this were an error AND a 99 WAM we'd be talking serious money.
Yep. That's what all the excitement is about. Sometimes something like a thread, wire, cloth or in this case a staple falls onto the planchet or die and gets struck into the coin. If the item remains, it's call a retained strike through (eg. struck through wire). I have a couple that I've found in the past. This one is a beauty!
