I was thinking about gettin the 2012 Infantry Dollar on Thursday. I was wondering would it be better to buy the Unc. or proof. What would be better in the long haul. I've also never bought from the mint before and was wondering what kind of packaging does the proof and unc come in. Thanks
Why follow the crowd? Most people buy the Proof version which means the mintage of the Unc is usually less. That may have an effect on future value.
Usually the proof coin comes in a nicer case than uncirculated coins. No way to tell until it is officially released.
With the mint pricing these days and the recent history of these dropping in value, there's a very good chance that you will lose money on either one. The best advice is buy the one you like the best.
No the UNC come in a very plain blue box in most cases that I have seen in the past. If you can only do one and want the fancest one go with the proof. Most of the modern commeratives end up valued very close to melt value in time has been my experience.
If you can only afford one, then get the uncirculated version. It will likely have a much lower mintage plus it is less expensive. TC
