The seller is some one I do know from the forms, and he came highly recommended. The funny thing is we are now becoming friend. Take a look at his store and decide yourself. The address is in my opening post. But I do thank you for sharing your knowledge with me. This is the first Franklin I have ever bought, really I showed my wife the coin and she bought it for me. The set is in a price range that I have a real chance of completing the set. Unlike other coins I know I will never be able to complete. Thanks you all my friends Alan
Actually, this coin has not been dipped and I'll tell you why I think that it hasn't. Look around the obverse rim at around 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock. There a black toning that would have been removed by a dip. Personally, I would prefer a coin without the toning, but the toning is the evidence that this coin has NOT been dipped.
I have a '63 Cameo I believe. Absolutely stunning coin to look at and truly beautiful. I'll have to get it out of the sdb and take its picture sometime.
You really should do so, lincolncent. I have had my eye on Ultra Cameo Franklins for a while now. They are quite stunning and a bit harder to find than most would think. The year I collect is 1962. I have toyed with the idea of assembling a grading set of proof '62 Franklins. Everything from brilliant proof to ultra cameo. It's just one more way to make your own type set.
I saw those marks too but can't figure out if it is toning or a reflection. I wish the buyer good luck in actually receiving the coin in the photo. The dealer's story seems to be a bit dubious.
You should do more research into costs of other Franklins, especially low mintage years and mints that grade 65+ and are designated with an FBL. I've completed one set of Franklins, all certified 64 and 65, with proofs, and now I'm working on a complete set of 64+ FBLs.
Here is my 62 DCAM. The same seller had a better example PR67DCAM up as well. I gave him a lowball offer and it was gone in 15 minutes.
JCB1983 That is an amazing coin, a 1966 DCAM WOW thank you for sharing that coin I am going to start a Dansco with this first Franklin, it should be a good challenge set. All the best Alan
No thanks I just bought one last week... By the way your "night sky form" is really incredible. I saw a pic of a half moon blew me away. Thanks for posting the form, I hope when I get Time so sign up one day. All the best Alan
Thanks Mike The funny thing is, when I told the seller I wanted the coin in the stock pic, I was going to use the black toning marks to make sure they where on the coin when I received it. All the best Alan
Why do folks continue to tell Alan that he got a "killer deal"? He bought a common Franklin Proof at a common Franklin Proof Price. There's still the shipping charge and sales taxes if applicable. He wrote the dealer asking for the exact coin in the photograph but I suspect that the dealer figured out that the buyer has no way of telling if the coin he receives is the same coin because, quite frankly, these proof pretty much all look the same and it requires an "expert" eye to differentiate between them. Alan, exactly "How" are you going to know that you receive the coin which was photographed? Please explain. I know how I would do it but would like to know how you are going to do it. BTW, this = = > http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...xOkMGEtL1WPE2htAaeFeLRk=&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc was a killer deal.
This is an awesome set to collect, Alan. I am glad to see that you have discovered it. Maybe we can compare notes as we go forward.
And if they aren't? What will you do? Return it? Will the dealer refund you your shipping? I understand that this is your first Franklin and that you are excited but its just a typical franklin Proof and you'll really be lucky if you receive that exact same coin.
