Looks nice but I thought his head/body wasn't supposed to be shiny on a proof? Polished?

It is a proof coin. What you may be thinking of are cameo proofs, where the bust (obv.) and eagle (rev.) are frosted and other devices/fields are mirrored.

Very few Proofs made before 1973 will have the cameo effect. But, for every date, back to the beginning, there are some examples that are cameo.

All Proofs, from the beginning - with the exception of the matte and satin Proofs - were designed to be cameo. But as a die wears the cameo effect fades until there is no cameo effect at all. And the mint didn't care, they would keep right on using the dies producing Brilliant Proofs with no cameo.

In 1973 that changed. And when the cameo effect began to wear the dies were replaced and new ides used while the worn dies were resurfaced. They were then used again until they could no longer be used at all.

Cameo proofs from that era are few and far between, unlike the proof coins of today.

It's a nice coin but the bell has a crack in it

Kind of like the Alamo has bullet holes in the walls.

It's a very nice proof and the Franklin series is a popular one for numismatists to put together.

$16 is a good price, but not really value shattering as the proof Franklins, 60-63, are easy to find for just slightly over melt, and if you look hard enough those years can be found right around melt.

I agree, it's a nice coin - especially from an era when problem proofs are fairly common.
There even appears to be a bit of frost on the obverse lettering!

I hate to be the bearer of what could turn out to be negative news but taken directly from the website below under specifications
'Photo's are stock and not necessarily the coin you will receive. Some coins exhibit toning and hazing from having been in sets.'

    Thanks everyone.
What I did was write the seller and I told him that I wanted that exact coin in the picture. He wrote me back saying he was not sure if he still had this exact coin in stock as it was a stock photo.

It took him a few days but we wrote back and forth. Then he emailed me back saying he had found the same coin as in the stock photo, So this is the coin I will be receiving,
I Told him I Only wanted that coin and he was able to get it for me.

    Take care everyone.

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

I've got a super ugly proof franklin half and would kill to get that at $16. My proof is absolutely no less than ghastly even though it was pulled directly out of a proof set. Same goes for the dime and quarter in it.

Man I hate to give any negative observations on an otherwise positive thread, and I very well could be wrong, but I believe this franklin was dipped. It is crisp, but just not enough. There is a small layer on there, and that is why I believe you see the microscropic bubbles both on the obverse and reverse. Look I could be wrong, but Franklins are my favorite series, and I look at over 100 a day. Deff Proof, but could be a dip. Just lacking a slight bit of crisp imo.

Potentially a good source. Let us know how it comes out.
