    Here is my newest buy:
    1963B $1 50 strap.jpg

Pretty historical, huh?? I'm pretty impressed with it. It's dated December 1st 1969, just about 11 and a half months after Joseph W Barr was taken off as the Secretary of the Treasury. In the strap, I found 2 trinaries that are both pictured in the scan. One of the bills that I can note in the strap has a stamp around Washington's portrait that says "Protest". That's just the kind of stuff that I really take a liking to, even if it potentially inflates the value of that bill. The strap is unfortunately limited to BG's, mainly JC's, and LG's. The same day I bought this strap from my neighbor, I was strap searching at a local BOA and I found 2 more LF Barr's. I thought that was a little ironic considering that I rarely find Barr's strap searching and I just so happened to find 2 together in one strap the same day I bought this original strap. Does the original strap have an affect on the value of these bills??

    Thanks everyone!

To me "original strap" means Unc's. Those are worn and I would think that would not matter in their shape.

Not much but it gives your notes some historical context. That is a pretty cool strap that you got. I find it interesting that it is comprised of what seems like only Barr notes. You would think a strap from 1969 would have notes from series 1963A and perhaps a few from 1963 as well.

@DK Well original strap to me the strap from when these guys were collected! My point of 'orignal' meant that the strap isn't a newer strap that it is the original strap from when these guys were put in it. What does original mean to you? Original to me means... Well, original.
@NOS Someone wrote on the strap "J W Barr" meaning that the person who made this strap and stashed it knew that they would be scarcer in the future. How original!;)

"original" in the context of the strap that surrounds a pack of notes to me means the one placed on a fresh pack by the BEP.

In my opinion, the bank strap on this group of notes does not any value.

Okay, so 'orignal' wasn't the right word, but you guys should know what I mean..... I guess all this leads to the hardest part of the whole deal....... Value. It's hard for me because I think I may have overpaid for these notes. I purchased them from my neighbor. I would post what I paid but I'm embarrassed too. I'll post what I paid for them if I can at first at least get some feedback on the value oft these notes. I paid more than face value thinking that the strap made them worth more than face value. Either way, I don't mind too much for overpaying because my neighbor is actually a good friend of mine. He had bought one other strap from one of his friends and he is keeping it for himself. He has the opportunity for buy 2 more 1969 50 strap bundles for just under what I paid. I'm going to advise him not to if I can get some ideas on value here first....

From recent Ebay sales of used notes, it looks like about $1.25 per note. A single note went unsold at $1.24. A group of 65 went for $80.00. There are exceptions, of course, but in the end these notes are not that scarce and not in great demand.

This is one example of hype making a note seem more valuable than it really is. These notes were saved by lots of people expecting they would be worth something because of the short tenure. But the BEP continued to print them months after he left office.

I represented an estate last year where the deceased had 5 UNC BEP packs of 100. He worked at a bank when they were issued and set them aside. The personal representative of the estate sold them on Ebay where they went for $225.00 per pack.

Hey Tbud, based off what your fellow counterparts have expressed, you should offer face for the last two remaining straps. Don't get burned man.

How about using the term "contemporary" when describing an old and intact strap of circulated notes? This should help to satisfy those who don't like the term "original" when used under the context of describing a strap of circulated notes that were stored away decades ago. Based on what lettow has said I believe a fair price to pay for 50 circulated Barr notes is around say $62-$63.
