Hey guys, I know I dont post much. I am more of a lurker soaking in knowledge rather than a poster. I have this 1921 High Relief Peace dollar and just wanted some opinions on it. Its circulated and uncleaned. I have only took it to one guy and he said its in around VF , and said anywhere from $80-125. Any thoughts on this? agreements? disagree? Thanks. I was thinking about sending it in to be slabbed, but I have come to like the raw coins more. I like the fact I can take it and hold it (around the rim of course) and look at it. Thanks in advance everyone.

I wouldn't send it in. I would enjoy it as a raw coin.

Closer to XF+, IMO. The values your coin has been appraised at are fair.

This coin doesn't qualify as "submission-worthy", IMO, but it's ultimately your choice.

EDIT: Also, check for a sun ray running through the first 'L' in 'DOLLAR' on the reverse. The ray would be overlapping the 'L' if it were infact the VAM-3 "Line Through 'L'" and would add a small premium to your coin's overall value.

I know, something about raw coins just keeps my attention more than one stuck in a hunk of plastic. I can understand if someone was investing, than it would be a different story.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

hard to grade these without judging luster. many had weak strikes because of the high relief. Nice coin though.

no need to slab it unless this were ms-63 or better quality.

Aren't all 1921 Peace dollars high relief? Thought some 1922 were also before that changed it. I think the banks were complaining that they wouldn't stay in a stack.

All '21's are high relief, yes, but it has nothing to do with bank stacks and everything to do with wear on the dies and striking pressure necessary to get a good strike. The dies were used far faster than was cost efficient to have them do so.

Price quote is very reasonable. Is it just my imagination or the angle the pic of the reverse was taken but the reverse rim from one to the eagles feathers looks a bit thin and the diagonal by america looks thick? If it isn't just the pic... then maybe the reverse die wasn't secured completely and it stuck the rev. a bit off center.

Nice '21.:) The price range you were given is fair. It is not a VAM3, though.
