Well one day a while back I went through some pictures on google and put together an idea. Imagine the mint has discovered a die for all old US coins without presidents on them and some reverses for those that do. you found them and to commemorate that, the mint is ordered to make circulating coins for 1 year using all of the dies to make all the denominations. You also have to modify them to make sure at least one initial of the designer is on each side. How would you do it? Maybe some pics if you could edit them a bit? just dreaming this whole deal is. I just wonder what designs you like.
If you look near the back of the redbook, on P. 355, you would see some REALLY nice pattern coins. If I could choose what went on a coin, I would Definitely pick some of those.
Go ahead, Just as long as it has no presidents on it. I think for the cent I like the IHC with the 1909 VDB reverse.
Either the draped bust obverse/walking liberty eagle reverse. Or the $10 eagle Indian gold obverse with the buffalo nickel reverse. Like that?
If I controlled the mint I would mandate that all coins made for circulation have matching relief front and back and that the relief must be as high as it was in 1990 or earlier. I say matching relief front and back because the 2006+ nickels are very unbalanced. The relief on the reverse looks decent but the front is as flat as a piece of paper.
How about we don't reuse and overdo the old designs and hire the best design of lady liberty? Gotta do something new.
And do you know what you would have? Coins coming out of the dies with VG detail. Or you can slow the presses down so you can strike up the detail......and you'll need nine more mints.
Get rid of the cent and you'll have more time and space to mint the coins that are worth a little bit still. As for designs. I've always loved the 1988 Olympic Comem Gold $5 so I'd use that on the quarter probably (most circulated) Not sure of the reverse
Bring Carson City, Charlotte, and whatever that one in Georgia was(can't spell or pronounce that), back. Put San Fransisco back on regular production, open a mint in Texas, and you might cover it.
I thought the same thing. Heck, they could use some worthless metal in the core and plate it in silver, then the currency would be partially backed.
