I'd like to see Teddy Roosevelt on a circulating coin.

they nneed to kill the dollar bill, leave sac on the coin and make a $2 with mlk and say adams on the penny. he did alot for our country even ifhe is one of the forgotten founding fathers. i mean he created the navy for gods sake. no ones ever seen the tv seires john adams?

I agree with Cazkaboom and others who want to get change from dead presidents to something else. As much as I admire some of the presidents on our coins the choice of their portraits is not very artistic and shows the lack of courage our politicians have to change the status quo.

I know the likelihood of the circulating coins changing is very small given all the special interests groups and States that would howl over any legislation to remove "their" president from any coin. I hope that one day people will realize that is not a dishonor or something negative to change the design to something more artistic. Just my opinion

Real people on money is too polarizing. Heck, I can't stand to look at half the coins and bills in my pocket now :smile. I'm with the poster who suggested traditional designs.

 

It should be noted that MLK is on the $100 US Treasury I Savings Bond.

 

But....those don't circulate. Once they get rid of that rag dollar then the geezer will get his wish. All the prezes will have their mug out there.

Editbut still, I think it would make more sense to give Balto a coin or bill of his own, even though he was (in most people's eyes) "just a dog" and "dogs are not important, like humans are" which is not true, but at least Balto saved lives. And its about time we learned that "humans" are not the only species on the planet, and start learning that we could honor hero dogs as well as humans on our coins or bills, which is why I suggest both the "Balto $200 Federal Reserve Note Act" which would have created a Balto $200 bill and the "Famous Dogs Half Dollar Coin Act" which was a series of halves that would honor Balto first.


Anyway, as for Teddy Roosevelt, I want him on the $200 bill if we ever issue one, and an image of Mount Rushmore on the reverse of the new $200 bill, if they reissue the $500, hopefully keeping William McKinley, and possibly the $1,000 bill, hopefully keeping Crover Cleveland.

 

TR was instrumental in beautifying US coinage by enabling designers to have the freedom and encouragement to do so with less constraints and he saw to it personally that the designs reflected a certain spirit and iconography to express such spirit. Why when so many bemoan boring US coin designs and banter on about removing presidents and/or other statesmen from US coins, often quoting ideas that go back to the founding fathers to leave them off the coins, do people wish to put one of the very men to saw to it that coins were not designed with such figures' likenesses, now is suggested he be placed on a US coin... At the most, if one seeks to commemorate someone for their greatness or contributions, then start a campaign to get new coin legislation started to have the named person in coined form as a new offering in the commemorative coin program.

In money making Manhattan everything is big and these notes have been issued... one just needs a really big wallet to tote them around, plus finding a register with a tray big enough is a challenge too!

Yeah, I was just going to say.... there are some people that would say MLK was far from being a role model. People and history have been very kind to him as time passes. People just assume they know people without really knowing anything.

Besides that, he doesn't strike me as having a lot to do with the government. The government produces these circulating coins so I would expect them to give the honor to their own from within the system.
