Does anyone know of a good visual guide to the die varieties on Canadian 5 cent pieces? I recently came across a 1910 and am trying to ID the type (as the round leaf variety is apparently about 10 times as valuable).

As the coin is in G-F shape and very difficult to photograph with any clarity, I am looking for photos to refer to (anything I post will probably be an unhelpful blur).

Open these images in new tabs/windows and flip back and forth. What I notice in particular is how close the tip of the leaves are to the rim of the coin, and of course the pointy-ness.

I happen to have a round leaves and was very excited when I found out. Good luck :D

I just checked my 2012 Charlton Catalogue and it has detailed pictures of those varieties.
If you are going to collect Canadian coins, I advise you to get a copy of the Charlton, it's absolutely indispensable.
A membership in the RCNA is a good investment also: http://www.rcna.ca/

    Thank you! That's very helpful.

I'm also very impressed by those photos GreatWalrus - these are tiny coins, and those photos are amazing. I'm still having a bit of trouble making out the difference. The biggest difference I can see appears to be on the 5th leaf down (at about 9:00 on the coin). Is that what I should be looking for?

I blew up a scan and it came out better than I expected. If I'm diagnosing this correctly, then it looks like I have the more common pointed variety. What do you think?
