Help with this 1996 Quarter??? Or what ever it is????

    A friend showed this to me today, please help me, This is not a quarter, I dont think so anyway. It is the same size but has big bumps on both sides and the lettering is off. Please help and thanks. 100_6442.jpg 100_6443.jpg

    I think it was in a fire. the air bubbles inside the coin expanded and left the bump.

    Oh, it's a real quarter, all right, but it's heat damaged.

    Whats up with the LIBERTY see the large gap between the I and B, also the kid that brought the coin to me sit down with his pencil eraser and tryed to remove some of the crud from the face of the coin(aginst my advice of course) and if you look close at the photo just in front of the bump you can see where the clad rubed off and looks like pink spots underneth. And on the reverse right on top of the bump you can see another pink looking spot.

    Probably just distortion from the heat. The discoloration could be anything with a damaged coin. You're spending waaaaaay to much on this one. Toss it, spend it but move on.:)
