Hello again. I bought this today from a gentleman at a flea market for $45.00. Using pcgs photograde and thier price guide I gave this between a MS-63 and a MS-65 respectively. I also noticed some possible die wear?? on the reverse. Pronounced on the E's. Any input or comments on what you would grade it and how much it's worth are greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I made a wise purchase. :smile Thanks.
wow.nice looking indian head. sorry to hijack. i had a nice find also . i was at my local coin shop yesterday going through some circulated ih's and came across a few nice ones. what i didnt realize til i got home is that i had luckily picked out a fine (imo)1897 with legible liberty that had the reverse flipped 180 degrees .(upside down ) so when im looking at my pennys obverse side and i flip it to the reverse, the one cent should be right side up and legible . this one is upside down. i went through over 50 other ih's and couldnt find any other like it. i went through some current pocket change to see if maybe i was just getting excited for nothing. So... i took it back to the coin shop today and 1 of the owners confirmed i had actually found an error coin in his shop. it might be a small find but its awesome when you get an unexpected find. he estimated it at 5.00 but i think i'll hold onto it. sorry VDBPENNYGUY FOR HIJACKING. being a newbie here at cointalk.com i cannot post new threads yet.
This coin is a higher grade coin but from the marks and wear on the high parts and fields its either been cleaned or there was light circulation. It might be the pitures but I cant really see too much luster. With that said I would say its high AU. nice find.
Thanks for the article, informative, but the black and white pictures really hamper the ability to accurately self grade my IH, luster speaking that is. Oh well, the descriptions are great.
