I still think going back to portraits of Lady Liberty would be best. Tired of depressing dead people on coins. Also, didn't George Washington not want to be put on coinage?
Lincoln is on a dollar? Reagan is on a dollar? That's news to me. Can you point me to these dollar coins besides the Presidential Dollar Coins?
Let's not get too political but remember, the programs he started saved a lot of people in need during the depression. Don't blame him for our current politicians running our government for ruining the programs.
If they made a MLK coin though, they need Rosa Parks on it as well. If it wasn't for her actions that led to the mass movement by MLK, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 might not have come until further down the road. Who knows, perhaps in 2014, we'll be seeing a 50th anniversary coin to commemorate it all, just be patient I say.
Those are commemorative dollars. I think the main topic involved seeing changes made to circulating coinage, not commemorative coinage.
Teddy Roosevelt is one of the greatest presidents of all time in my opinion. He formed the rough riders for crying outloud. I was given this by a close relative. Still not sure what exactly it is. It says "Theo Roosevelt 1903, Presidential visit on the obverse."
It's funny you should bring that up: http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi...=110_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ451.110.pdf
Teddy Roosevelt should have his own coin (or bill) because of the simple fact he could have beat up any of our other presidents.
It's bad enough that the forces of political correctness made MLK's b-day a national holiday. He in no conceivable way deserves to be on a coin. I for one am disgusted by the mantle of near sainthood that has been bestowed on such an unworthy individual. MLK was a womanizing philanderer, a Communist and a hypocrite, in addition to being a race hustler like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. Just my 2¢
Interesting perspective. If we are to make this a character flaw contest, should we not make JFK and Thomas Jefferson stand down also?
I'm no JFK fan, never have been and never will be. he's probably the most overrated President of all time. TJ wrote the Declaration of Independence, for heaven's sake and accomplished much for the new nation. He never claimed to be a moral leader, unlike the hypocritical "Reverend" King.
i wasnt refering to dollar coins, i wad refering to the fact that licoln is on the 5 dollar bill and GW on the 1 dollar bill .....
