The other day at work I got a 2005-s Sacagawea back in change out of a vending machine, I wondered what the chances would be of getting anymore, so I cashed in a $10 bill and got another 2005-s, 2000-s, 2007-s as well as three 2006's (2 p's and 1 d). I was just wondering how many others have ever found any proofs like this in circulation?
I've gotten a bloody beaten blabbering 1998-S Washington Proof quarter from the vending machine at my dad's work. I spent it.
I needed to do laundry once, and only had $5 on me. Was about to walk down to the store to get quarters when my wife's friend said "Hey, I just washed my car and probably have that much at the bottom of my purse." Well, in the $5 I got, there was a 2005 (I think.) Maryland clad proof. I saw the "S" first and went "OMG PLZ B SLVR!!!" but no luck.
I found a 1987-s lincoln proof in roll searching months ago..abused but none the less it's still a proof
I have found 2 or 3. I recall that the last one was a clad washington in change from a pizza joint about a year ago.
Fyi Perhaps 10 years ago I received a clad proof quarter in change. As an impaired prood it was not worth keeping so I spent it. A couple years ago I searched $500 in half dollars & found two proof clad Kennedy half dollars. They only had a couple marks so I kept them. I think someone's Kennedy half collection was in the $500 because I found several good dates including one of each dated 1965, 66, 67, and 68.
1973-S quarter in change from a Subway; something looked almost too shiny about it, and when I looked, there was the 'S' - I put it aside as an interesting (not valuable) piece.
I got a 1963 washington quarter proof in a roll once. Had a big fingerprint on it, but other than that its still quite shiny! thats by best find while roll searching. To bad its not worth more than melt!
I don't think I have. I can tell you where some of them come from though. A relative had their proof set coins stolen. The cases were cracked open, the thief left the cents. Odds are they were spent at a local shop to pay for candy or soda (leaving the cent was telltale as far as plans).
I found a 1961 proof quarter just last week in some change. Only one I ever found, and was super excited about it.
i've found a 1978-s kennedy half, a 1990-s jefferson nickel, and a washington d.c. proof in circulation. my fiancée has found a rhode island proof, and a washington state proof in circulation.
Suggest this be moved to the roll searching forum? I have found a number of impared proofs. They come from: Thieves (but I'd like to think not). Collectors who needed to spend them, but their local coin store wouldn't offer more than melt. Children of collectors who are not interested and just spend it as cash. High end "Shopping network" types who buy in bulk, and throw out/spend what they know wont make MS70 by a grading service (and I think this is the most common).
