Am I the only one that was fascinated by this? How could you possibly manipulate a penny into a dime? I know this guy caught a lot of flack on here, but how much would this have sold for if it was marketed at the Baltimore Whitman?

That coin is worth $1000-$1500 MAX! In that ACG holder probably on the lower end of that spectrum. While they are scarce... You could probably still see 30-40 examples at the Baltimore show.

actually I read the thread. I do not understand how somone could have made this.

I am glad that someone even admitted that it was worth 1k. Everyone else has been acting like it is a 5 dollar piece of junk silver.

A struck dime somehow ended up in a press that was striking cents. Probably was left in a bin that was then filled with cent planchets and fed into the machine.... It happens. The penny on dime combo is the most common...

It happened because a struck dime somehow ended up in the coining chamber of the cent press. While quite rare this can happen because a dime is smaller than a cent so the dime will fit inside the collar of the cent coin press. You will not see a genuine dime struck on a cent because the cent is larger than the collar for the dime.

Oh yeah, let me add -

I think he finally got the hint. I actually didn't mind it, because I thought it was pretty cool. The guy that had it was pretty annoying because he wouldn't get it graded by a top grading company, and I don't think he told the truth on how he got it.

Well, I admit to some collectors it might be worth a couple grand but for myself, not into error coins, it's worth 11 cents to me. Honestly, the only thing that irritates me is the coin owner seems to find every opportunity to bring this coin up in whatever thread he posts in. It's hijacking the threads and at this point what I'd consider spamming the site since he's also been trying to sell it for a starting price of either 8.5 to 10 million or so.

I think you've crossed your threads as I do not recall anyone saying this was a $5.00 piece of junk. I recall reading that it was no where near the million(s) the owner was asking though.

Yeah, honestly the owner is just fooling himself at this point in trying to sell this coin for a starting price of 10 million. My guess is, the seller is scared to throw it in a real coin auction to sell it and see the real value someone is willing to buy it for by people driving the price.

Actually, I believe that the owner feels he has a "unique" 11 cent piece that he feels is worth millions. For this reason, that coin will continue pass to his heirs until someone throws out the baloney and eventually sells the coin for its true value which is only 4 figures.

Folks are certainly free to believe whatever they want about their possessions but those beliefs start to irritate folks when they are constantly being tossed up as fact.

I personally do not care one way or the other with regard to this piece and cannot help but wonder why folks are trolling just to get him to post?

Is it really that boring today?

Why doesn't somebody start trolling for $6 or $30 bills instead. I'm tired of the 11 cent piece.

Yup. The lint in my right pocket is worth millions, anyone interested? ;)

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder that myself. I know I wasn't bored, it was a hectic day at work for me.
