Obtained 50 unc. consecutive J stars, series 2003 DC., Serial #'s DJ009132551-2600 from my neighborhood bank two weeks ago. The Standard Catalog of US Paper Money, 30th Edition has no listing for this star run. Any idea on value?

Value will depend on the notes condition. You must tell us about that aspect or show us some images of these notes in question to get an answer. Assess each and every note for bumped corners, crescent folds, marks, folds, writing, teller stamps, strap dents, centering of the printed part of the note within margins, and so on to determine what they may/may not be worth. This in turn may help you decided to spend them or not.

Thanks Krispy. My bills are $10's not $1's.

Sorry, my error on the denominaiton. (I've retracted the wrong info above.)

For $10 Series 2003 J (*) star notes, book values would be around $25 (AU) to $45 (ChCU) each.

Value still dependent on condition of each note as mentioned earlier.

It will depend on your age, working capital and patience.

The OP hasn't asked about predicitons of future value. No one, no matter their age, wealth nor patience, can predict the future value of anything. The passing of time does not suggest the value of anything will increase.

The reason no one can offer something better than a book value estimate as to the value of these notes in question, is that the condition (grade) of the notes, remains, undefined.

The suggestion to hold or spend implies the OP may have a limit to their working capital already tied up in the notes in question. The OP seeks the current value as a determiner of whether to hold or spend the notes, at this time. It seems to suggest that this individual will collect these notes only if the current numismatic market places a premium on them and for no other stated reasons. We don't know the OP's intentions, though hold or spend, doesn't imply that the OP will move to sell these notes if they learn the notes carry a premium, in which case, the value is really of little importance until you actually have collected that amount from another person. Hence that adage, they are only worth what someone else is willing to pay for them.

Thanks again, Krispy. Plan to hold until I need immediate cash. I collect, not invest for profit,
currency and US coins . The bills would have to been counted by a machine as there was no strap. Centering on the side is well centered. The top/bottom are off.

panther: If I had these notes, I would consider a couple of options, selling or reinvesting the money in other notes.

If selling, I'd scan the first and last SNs in the group and post all of them in one auction to see if there were any interested buyers. I would add a 'best offer' option as well. I wouldn't want to list them individually with all the fees associated per listing. If no takers for the 50-notes in auction, after about 2-weeks, then I'd pick the notes I wanted, if any, for my personal collection. I'd take out the best looking SNs, the best condition note(s), then spend the rest on getting other notes by either returning to the bank for more notes that may yeild better (or fancy) SNs -or- taking that money and buying a collectible note from a dealer or auction. I'd go after something that I loved and knew was more in demand among collectors willing to pay a premium for the notes.
