1876 CC Trade Dollar

I just picked this coin up and think I did a pretty good job. I know this is one of the most counterfeited coins out there but from what I can tell this is authentic. What do you think? And what do you think the value is?

I'd recommend sending it to a TPG.

 

There were two types of reverse dies for 1876 and it looks like you have "reverse 1" which is the one that is worth slightly more

 

I'd get that into a "genuine" slab if I were you. From what I can see I have some doubts about authenticity, but I'm far from an expert on trade dollars. I hope you didn't pay as much as the amount shown in this ridiculous auction:

That´s one heave heavy cleaned coin, So if it´s real you will get a " genuine" slap at the TPG´s. Am I wrong in thinking this is a counterfeit ?

 

Not at all Siggi... it certainly has that look.

 

Gone over the larger pictures and this is in my mind with out a doubt a fake. Sorry buddy but others will most likely concur.

 

Where'd you get this and how much did you pay?

 

I bought It off of craigslist for $75. I knew there was a chance it was a fake but apparently I missed something. What did I miss?

 

For me it´s the lines left in the cast and transformed to the die used.

@jloring - Yeah I can definitely tell the difference in terms of detail

 

Plus mushy details, "fade away" dentils and "orange peel" effect on the rim.

 

What would the cost be from TPG if turns out to be fake ?

 

just my thought, looks cast to me. but nice for a cast coin!!!!!!!!!!

What's funny is the seller swears up and down it's real and that their grandfather had it authenticated.
