That's why I don't bother posting offers very far below the buy it now price (unless it's an item under $50, then I think the possibility for insult is smaller). If they listed it as that high of a buy it now, they probably wouldn't accept less than half of it.
My answer is a BIG NO! NO! NO! Your Offer I think is good, If he does not like your offer He/She can make a counter offer like More $ to add on that offer. Not to call you such kind of remarks..
Making rude remarks to a potential buyer (no matter how low your offer is ) is not IMO a good business plan. He can set his best offer to auto decline anything below a certain amount, and most cases can leave a nice deny message and not even deal with the aggravation. If it were me and I felt the way he did, I would just block you without the rude comment back, say thank you and never have to worry about a low offer from you again. But I don't usually block bidders unless I have had bad sales/payment experiences.
I checked this fellow's other auctions and his coins seem, at best, optimistically graded and priced. Furthermore, in some instances he uses a stock photo when selling multiples of an item (1870 Canada 50¢ for example). His auction has a huge list of rules and regulations and doesn't take PayPal (which, as a buyer, I love. As a seller not so much ) He claims that eBay is forcing him to sell outside the USA (that's news to me, if true). Overall, he seems like the type of chap I'd avoid doing business with, regardless of the coins he may offer.
I wonder what this seller is so angry about. Everything about his description puts forth aggressiveness and anger. My favorite part: "BUYERS WHO DO NOT PURCHASE POSTAL OR FEDEX INSURANCE WILL HAVE THEIR ITEMS SENT AT THEIR RISK !!" That is wishful thinking and blatantly goes against eBay rules for sellers. And no, eBay cannot force anyone to sell outside the US. It's something he has to do to sell his foreign coins for decent prices. Again, he's angry about the reality of the business, but needs to look at himself instead of blaming everything and everyone else. I for one will add this seller to my "exclude" list when searching coins. What a chooch.
Always check feedback. Seller seems like a grump, wouldn't have bothered making an offer after seeing a past response which was:
Man, that is not good customer service. I believe he is sick of what he considers low offers... and is not willing to accept that it isn't problem free. Possibly with that many items sold, he is just sick of what he considers low offers in the first place. Whenever big sellers have automated systems, it is a good buying tool to start extremely low, and bid up until you reach the threshold. He should expect it.
Yes, but then he would not have the miserly pleasure of rubbing it in the buyers face. When people talk this way to others, it usually means that they can't get away with talking like that to their spouse.
Well, his feedback is actually very good. Most of the negs came from two aggrieved parties. But I do agree he seems like an angry man and not just a crotchety old geezer like yours truly I checked his auctions for Canadian coins and pretty much all of them were optimistically graded and listed at over Charlton Catalogue prices for their alleged grade. It's a shame too because he had a decent New Brunswick 20¢ coin that I wouldn't mind having in my collection but his asking price ($500) is about twice its RETAIL value. After seeing his response to low bids, I decided there are other coins and other sellers and, life being so dang short, I didn't want to deal with him and his "issues".
Well, it official, I am blocked from his items also. I bid $32 on a Canadian dime he had listed $60. I also had a stupid offer and was told to abuse someone else . So this was not a one off, seems this is standard operating procedure. He seems so nice in his photo:devil: Mike
What an sidiot (if a bidder is an idiot = bidiot, then a seller that is an idiot has to be a sidiot). LOL -- his loss, guess he just doesn't accept that putting an item up for best offer doesn't always get 99 percent of the buy it now price. He should simply auto decline all those that don't meet his standards.
It would probably be worth forwarding abusive replies to eBay customer support. He, eBay, and his customers might benefit if eBay gave him a little reality check on customer relations.
He is a bit rude with his reply. Not many sellers care for half price offers but he could be nice about it.
