Yeah, these large ones of Constantine are pretty nice. This one looks great! You've seen the one I have thats the same as yours. Here's another large one I really like. Bit hard to get a good photo of.
Very nice coins. Ironically, my first two Constantine purchases were these two Sol Invicto's from Trier, and I desperately need to re-photograph them someday. Cheers, -Kurt
I made a small collection of Constantine at one point and Kurt's two coins above are both ex-my collection as a matter of co-incidence. I parted with them due to job loss . I did specialise in his coins from Lugdunum though and so the first coin in this thread still has great appeal to me. The following was my all time favourite though... Martin
Hi Martin, I remember you telling me that. Just know that these two coins have a good home and are well appreciated. My house was robbed the other night, BUT, they didn't get any coins and my wife and I and our 7 month girl were unhurt. Regards, -Kurt
Thanks Randy, They got away with about $5000 in gold and silver and $500 cash and the police said that it is very likely there won't even be a detective assigned to the case as they are severely understaffed and backlogged with cases. Ironic, considering I have to have a business license and a"privilege" business license to buy and sell jewelry containing precious metals, etc. All that extra cost to small business owners AND time to make weekly reports about what, who, where, and when you bought these items to help with all of the robberies but yet when I get robbed, no one is there to help due to city budget cutbacks. Unless you get shot in the face, no one is coming to help -Kurt
I like both of the Lugdunum coins. Very nice die work, much better than average style. I dislike that about this period they started to devolve into the "glassy eyed stare" portraiture that later would be the hallmark of Byzantine coins. I have read and understand the religious reasons for it, but still do not find it attractive.
Those are some very nice coins Biancasdad and maridvnvm. You can see the different styles of the mints from looking at these few coins. The nose and heads are one feature that are different, I noticed the Lugdunum mint coins have more of an eggshaped head and a pointier nose. Im really sorry to hear that, glad you and your family are safe. I hope they catch them and put them where they belong.
