Please come see us at the upcoming Knoxville Tennessee 48th Annual Coin Show on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4, Rothchild Catering & Conference Center at Baron Place, 8807 Kingston Pike, 37923. Show is sponsored by the Fort Loudon and Smoky Mountain Coin Clubs.

Show hours are Friday 10-6, Saturday 9-5, admission is free. Haven't heard an exact count but am guessing 30-40 dealers including some of the same folks who set up at the Blue Ridge Numismatic Assn. show in August. This is a good, active show with a lot of nice coins (and nicer folks) that is more than local; I would call it regional. If you get a chance, please stop by and say hi. And whether you buy or not, please introduce yourself!

    Best Regards,

    George

What happened to Ben? He hasn't been around in a long, long time.

Funny, I was just talking to Mrs. VDB about that very thing this morning. I saw a bunch of the guys in Dalton last fall but frankly just forgot to inquire since I never saw him at that show ... I'm almost afraid to find out ... he was so active and knowledgeable here for so long. I still have a bunch of nice Unc Wheaties from Ben. Will know this weekend. Ben is a great guy so certainly hope there is good news here.

I have a good number of coins from Ben too. He's a great guy and numismatist. I certainly hope he is in good health. Please let us know what's going on.

    Thanks

Hi BadThad. Back from the show and am extremely happy to report that Ben is apparently alive and well; some of the show organizers told me he just isn't doing much with coins at all. You know he organized the Knoxville show for many years, and apparently just needed a breather. So that's the best news we could hope for!

I did not make it on the first day on Friday because I was at work but I went on the second day of the Knoxville coin show yesterday. Since this is a small coin show, this is normally a "hit-or-miss" show for me but this month's show was a good show for me because I found some silver art bars that were on my wish list. I did see several dealers that I did previous business with at past Blue Ridge Numismatic Association August coin shows.

Oh yes, you see a lot of the same dealers at both shows, lot of good guys and some nice new faces as well, transplants from snowier climes mostly. And some surprisingly nice coins for a regional show. I saw a proof 1851 Original Seated dollar, two 1794 halves, an 1879 Flowing Hair stella, lots of rare-date gold including some early half eagles, really an amazing selection! We sold some nice collector coins and actually did more there than at wholesale. It was good to see collectors dipping their toes back into the market. Perhaps a good portent for an uptick in the economy?

Glad you found some prizes ...

    Best Regards,

    George

Good news! Thanks for the update.

Did you have a chance to ask him why he's not on CT anymore?
