So I recently got a whole roll of UNC 1960-D Large date cents for the price of $1. I usually take two of the best and one goes in the folder and one goes in a 2x2. But this darned roll would not come out of the tube. I tried dropping it on the ground like all of my other broken tubes happened, and nothing happened. I try thumping the open end on the ground; not a budge. I eventually took a lighter to try to expand the plastic only burning my fingers. Time to call dad for help. We take the bottom end off and start using a hammer and punch to try to get one to push all the way through. NO DARNED PROGRESS! Next was a hacksaw. We sawed the plastic tube into halves making two incisions, didn't touch the coins, pried it apart with a screw driver, and used that pesky punch again. Success. Want some pics? Too bad. You get to see the whole shibang. Oh, and that one cent we punched? It could possibly have been the best one in the roll before we got to it.
that sucks.. i think the nickel plastic tubes are the worst.. i use paper anymore, its cheaper and they dont get stuck.. cody
This tube wasn't like any of the ones I have used. The ones I have, if I drop them on my floor from 5" high, they'll shatter. I took this one and threw it violently at the concrete ground and it made a scratch.
I think I should find out how to make this plastic and sell the idea to the Government to make Armour for tanks. :devil:
Next time try putting the tube and coins in a ziplock bag and put into the freezer for a while. Then take out and put the tube into a container of hot water for just a half minute or so and then open and turn over a soft cloth and the coins should come out, unless age and heat has permanently shrunk the plastic. The mass of metal will shrink in the cold and then not gain heat fast enough to expand again before they are out of the tube. Theoretically
I think I created an ebay error. You know, the obverse sinking into the reverse on the one directly above the punch one? I gotta look through all of them and still have to cherrypick them.

The round tubes are known to shrink and the coins gets stuck inside. I've seen it happen before too. Well at least now you know how to get it out next time it happens.
Yes, and I am inquiring about buying a roll of BU Roosies in the same kinda stinking tube. But now I know how to get some out, I'll only have minimal problems. :dead-horse:
