I'm brand new to Coin Talk so forgive me for posting this question incorrectly yesterday as a reply to penny questions post, my apologies. I have a 1986 D penny which doesn't seem to be copper. I'm not sure what metal was used but I know it is not magnetic. Also the penny feels lighter and thinner than most normal pennies. If anyone knows anything about it as to what metal was used, if it is rare, & its value if any, I would greatly appreciate it! the pairs of pennies are just to show how the metal used contrasts to a regular copper penny. Thank you! Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t199351/#ixzz1kcQbFjR4
Agreed. It's probably been exposed to some harsh chemicals/conditions. There is no way that it could be anything other than zinc platter with copper. Go throw it back in your coin jar, save it for a rainy day oh, and :welcome: to Cointalk!
