I don't know if this is a doubled die on the reverse. The clearest part is on the side of the memorial steps near the initials. Seems really deep instead of normal machine type doubling to me. What do you think?
Hey if it's die deterioration and I can get 2 cents for it, then I'm ahead!!! JK. I'm only running it past people because it seemed raised somewhat instead of "flat" but it's also a good place for machine type doubling.
Kasia, I'm not sure if you've misunderstood about machine doubling or not, but I'll run this by you anyway. The fact that it may seem raised doesn't rule out machine doubling because machine doubling is raised. It's just that the die chatter has moved a small part of the raised device. When we refer to machine doubling as "flat and shelf-like" we are referring to a horizontal plane parallel to the field. I hope this makes sense. Chris
I'm still learning about all the different ways that machine doubling can happen and how it shows. Sometimes I think I have a good handle on it and then that knowledge goes off into space somehow. But I don't mind if I'm shot down on some of the posts I do, it takes a long time to learn this. I will put this in my file (brain) and try to retain the knowledge. But chances are, that somewhere down the line, I'll come up with another example of what I should know is MD, but I question if it isn't. OH well, it's still a pretty penny!!!!! (just a circulation find)
