I was reading auction update from last week ,1700-1899 Brazil coins are getting hot a few were sold at $138,000.00 and not gold coins silver.I will post the coin and yr & grade soon.
Good point! Off hand, can you tell us the approximate dates of the empire and/or when the republic began? Chris
These are from a different time & place.......but still Brazil. These are from the Leprosy colony at Colonia Santa Teresa. This is evidenced by the CST stamp on the reverse. These coins were used around 1940. The obverse with the denomination is a standard token design. I bought this entire set from a Brazil dealer in 2009.
As usual, you have posted a couple nice additions. They are nicely struck a little off-center with some design off the planchet.
Pedro I the Emperor. 20 reis 1825, copper, minted in Rio, mintage - 9054000 pcs. Very high grade for a coin of that type.
Nice E this is the only Silver coin I have from Brazil. ? but I may have a few copper ones from the 1970- 1980 when I was station down in south America while I was in the US Army.I going to rain all day look for them will give me something to do!
I've been collecting Brazilian reis coins for the last few months now. I didn't want to show them off yet though because I don't want to inspire more people to get interested and then they'll be bidding against me. Does anyone else think that way?
Hardly I will make to you a competition, the sir. I do not think that I will arrive to the USA to buy coins. I believe, as you will not go to Siberia. So, clean your "Colt", the sir - I'm the guy from other state!
