    Hi all,

Here is a pic of the last morgan I bought. Its an 1891 S. I'm pretty new to coin collecting and am trying to get a handle on grading and figuring out if a coin has been cleaned. My annalisys was that this coin was MS62-MS63 just wanted to get some feeback from some vets on how close I am on grading this coin and what i should have paid for it.

For the Grade MS-63, you should have paid no more than $140.00.
    Hope this helps!

I don't know if it is just the photo (or scan) but I see absolutely no luster whatsoever. That could be due to being harshly cleaned or overdipped. So I would have to say as far as a grade - MS-62 Details / Harshly Cleaned.

I'm with Hobo. Unless this is a scan, it has been cleaned and has no luster at all.........MS Details - Improperly Cleaned.

MS61-62, details and I can see the results of a harsh cleaning all over it.

Since it's raw, I hope you didn't pay more than $80 for it.

pumpkinpie what is this I don*t even

Most often if a coin has been cleaned with something like steel wool or sandpaper there will be parallel lines from the rubbing motion.

The absense of luster is the biggest clue.

If the photo had been a scan, the light would be so bright that it washes out the pervading luster. If the photo had been taken by conventional means, you would be able to see some elements of luster that appear to radiate from the center outward like the spokes of a wheel.

There will be a dull, lackluster appearance, circular marks from using a brush.

it looks like a ms63 coin but if cleaned that cuts value way back. take it to a coin shop and compare the luster (if any) to a graded coin and then you will see the difference which you need to know.

Looking at the pictures in the OP, it definitely wasn't scanned since the coin is clearly tilted back during the picture taking process.

AU 58 MAYBE cleaned. I've taken photos that do not show luster on very lustrous coins so I'd tell you that there's a chance it's not cleaned, but you would have to decide that because it's in your possession.
