http://www.ebay.com/itm/1878-MORGAN...21?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item460030249d I WANT it, but seriously... I doubt the coin in the picture is the coin being sold. NO WHERE in the description or the title does it say CC. If it's an 1878 CC it's going to run what $80ish vg? Mint Location: Carson City, Philadelphia, San Francisco Says CC in the picture but no where else do you see cc. His description shows 3 mints... Must be the rarest coin known to man. I get eBay trying to fix the whole fake coin crap but it's deceitful auctions like this that also have to be taken care of.
If it is an 1878-CC, it is the rarest and a key date. How is he being deceitful? Your jumping to conclusions without evidence. Why not contact the seller and ask if they have photos of the reverse and maybe mention to them it would be nice of them to post those on the listing? EDITED: I sent the seller a question about photos of the reverse and asked if they could post those on the listing. Very simple task really.
To me, it would be common sense on the part of the seller to show a reverse photo, regardless of whether it's a CC or not. It does add confusion showing a 2x2 with the CC. But you're correct, emailing a seller and asking for additional details is a simple task.
What evidence? His thread doesn't have CC anywhere in it, lists 3 mints for the mint mark and ads CC in the picture to gain bids. I guarantee when that buyers gets the coin adn emails him saying "why isn't it a CC?" He'll get a response saying "I never said it was" If it was a CC, in that condition and year it would be worth at least $100, if not more. That's coming from an untrained eye of course. Look at the US coin section of ebay and click on Carson City as a break down and you will see that 90% of the listings aren't Carson City.
I find it interesting that people continue to bid on auctions like this. Then somebody wins, finds it is not a CC and then wants to return it. I don't even waste my time on auctions like this - I just skip them.
True by mintage but I see higher premiums for the 1878 CC in lower grades. The other 1878 (even the 8 tail feathers) don't command very high premiums until you're in the MS64 or higher range. The CC can easily go for $100 or so in VF condition, unlike from what I've seen the 8 tail feathers which you can pick up in VF for about $50 or dollars.
I already correct myself, thank you anyway. And again, do not send me private messages as I do not PM with minors for any reason. Thank you.
Exactly, what evidence do YOU have that it is not a CC Morgan? Are that expert enough to say with a 100% certainty looking at only the obverse side of the coin that is in fact NOT a CC Morgan? I sure can't and I doubt many others could either.
I don't need to provide evidence as I am not the one listing. The one listing is the one responsible for making an honest listing. What he did is misleading and you can't argue that. That's not even in terms of being a collector, as I'm fairly new to this. However, I buy from eBay.. a lot and this is simply frowned upon.
I don't see anything misleading. I do see a lack of information in the listing. A reverse image would have reduced questions about the coin. I'll guess the coin is really a CC.
I think this guy might collect coins on the side, not really knowing what is what. All of his descriptions are kind of vague. I think his lack of knowledge hurt him on this sale.
Well, he left it in the 2x2 and it says "$28.95" on it.....when was the last time you saw a CC for that much? LOL
I think you would have to live in a box to not realize the value of CC coins even if you do collect on the side. Given that the ink on the cardboard holder looks pretty fresh, I'd say that the picture is misleading. I guess it's possible that the seller is an absolute moron and choose not to mention CC in the description or have a picture of the reverse, but I doubt it.
^That's what I'm saying. It just doesn't add up. Even though I love eBay and I wanted to use it for begining my coin collection seeing things like that and then wheat pennies listed under carson city, etc. just turns me off using eBay for buying coins.
