1976 Kennedy Half dollar with copper showing I came across a Kennedy half dollar with some of the copper showing on both sides. Its not much, its on kennedys neck on one side and on the CA in America and on the AR in Dollar on the other side. I'm guessing there is nothing special about a coin like this right? Just thought i would check.
Sorry, i was expecting a "its normal" sort of response with recommendation that i just spend it as it has wear. Camera batteries are charging, will post pics shortly.
I picked that name as the first coin i got was a an ASE proof......i was hypnotised by the shiny part.
that's a nice first coin! mine is a 1962 pr70 dime that is purple from natural toning just about all the way around, the middle is whats left of not toning but it's a deep blue almost purple. very pretty coin.
Doesn't appear to be. I cleaned it with some handsoap and water in my hands. It cleaned up some. And another reason i think its copper is because there was a little green on the surface which came off, and on the edge you will see green. Copper goes green with acid rain. I've attached updated pics including one of the edge.
the edge of the coin is all brown except for a small ridge of the top of the coin which is silver in color.
It's possibly but why would you want that? You'd take a coin worth 50 cents and practically cause damage to it that makes it worthless.
Now there are errors called "Clad layer Missing before strike". This occurs when a blank sheds one of its outer layers before it is struck. It would give that side a copper appearance . Also there are Lamination errors that can occur when contaminants and gases get trapped under the layer causing the top layer to peel. from your pics I would say this is not happening. It looks like post -mint wear and tear. JMO
