Thats a good move. I will do the same!

Detecto just pay the seller. listen to ALL of the comments here & man up & do the right thing. This is a silly post of yours, common sense could have avoided you having this problem here!

Accepting Mark Feld's comments, but a little history might clear up why so many people were so strongly saying the guy should pay for it.

Of the numerous threads OP has started, on Aug 19, 2011 he stated " I only purchase a few coins every now and then from eBay. I have quit purchasing silver dollars due to the fact that their silver melt value has far exceeded their numismatic value in most cases. However instead of bringing melt they usually bring $40 for a common date Morgan and $35 for peace, which is well over melt." Then on Dec 16, 2011 he gives pics of a raw 1892 Morgan with a ring through it at the top and states: "It's on eBay for $80, I would love to own it but I don't have the money." Follows that up on Dec 20, 2011 with "Perhaps my best eBay find. 1834 Bust capped dime for $11.13 shipped. Guy had it in the wrong category and wrong year on the title. I'm guessing grade is AG/G? There is a small nick near the 4." Here he gives pics of a raw coin.

Changing it up a bit, on Dec 16, 2011 he posts "eBay makes me sick. As you all may know...eBay USED to be a nice place to buy coins, however every time I visit that site I get a sickening feeling in my stomach when I try to find coins." And goes on to rant about unsearched rolls that are offered.

Then on Dec 28, 2011 he asks "Good price for a morgan? I found a source selling NGC Slabbed MS 63 Morgan Dollars fo $60 with free shipping. Is this a good price?" and a second thread that same day "I don't like to brag...But I picked up this 1864 2 Cent Piece for $5 at an auction tonight." and showing a two cent piece. The next day, on the 29th, there's a post by him": "Bought my 1st slabbed coin, and why I bought it. Since I have a little bit more money to spend...I like seated halves but capped busts are a nicer looking design in my opinion. I just didn't have the money until now. I was thinking of buying a raw coin, but since so many come back from NGC as Details or Improperly Cleaned, I figured I was better off buying one that was already slabbed, meaning it's problem free. Truth is, I looked at different pictures of slabbed coins, ones that said improperly cleaned, and ones that didn't, and honestly on some I could tell no difference. So if you can't tell any difference, then I would be very hesitant to buy a raw capped bust half, because how do you know whether or not it's going to come back as improperly cleaned?" He gives a link to an ebay item. He goes on to say "So here is the coin, and yes you could argue that I might of overpaid for it. But to be honest, I don't feel guilty in the least bit. I suppose that since I buy and sell so many coins for profit, if I see a coin I like, I need to forget about overpaying for it, but of course there would be a boundary of how much to overpay. Now here is my point. Here is a capped bust half that is improperly cleaned according to NGC." (picture of slabbed coin) "Here is the one that I bought, that is not improperly cleaned according to NGC. (shows a NGC graded/slabbed VF35 1831 half dollar - with an aftermarket sticker on it that has 135.00 written on it and some pics of a 1834 NGC VF Details improperly cleaned - evidently from some other seller) and states "Can you tell the difference? I can't. I don't see anything different with the 1st coin that says it's been cleaned." Then the next day, the 30th, he posts about teletrade "I signed up for teletrade and won an auction on a $9 proof cent. When I sign up for a site, I usually scroll throught the terms and agreement, but I will know better next time. I was charged a "buyers premium". I've been to many auctions in my life, both online and in person, and buyers premiumss are usually used in auctions of expensive items like classic cars, houses, etc. So when it was all said and done, with the price of the coin, shipping, and the buyers premium, I would be spending close to $20 for a coin that is worth $10 tops. Not only is there a buyers premium percentage, there is a MINIMUM buyers premium fee of 8 dollars. I guess they implemented this so they don't have to mess with people only wanting one inexpensive coin. So I emailed teletrade and politely told them I made a mistake and did not read about the buyers premium, and that I was not interested in the coin. They never replied to my email. Only sending me emails asking to pay, and even a certified letter. My mistake, and I guess I will know better next time. It might be okay to pay a buyers premium if your going to buy some $5,000 dollar coin, but when it comes to inexpensive items like $5 to $20 coins, the buyers premium min of $8 instantly puts the price of the coin out of it's proper value."

On Dec 31, 2011 he says he's 19 and talks about the average age of a coin collector being 57.

On Jan 5, 2012 he then rants about "Hoardesr at coin auctions. Most of us coin collectors don't buy a whole bunch at a time, not unless we can get it dirt cheap. If I buy a couple pieces, John buys a couple pieces, and Dave buys a few pieces, it works out well. However there is this couple in their 60s that has been hitting auctions for the past two months. These people are rich, and have millions of dollars, farms, houses, etc. You would think someone with millions would just go to a coin shop if they want a coin. But no...they go to almost EVERY auction in the area that has coins. They don't buy one piece, they buy EVERYTHING. They do not sell it, they do not have a shop, they just buy it and pack it away. Getting back to what I originally said, if one collector only takes a few items, things turn out well, because everyone gets a chance. These people are simply greedy. They always want the 1st bid so they can suck up everything. Tonight they had 20 peace dollars. I ran them up to $30, and took just one I liked. Next time they sold for $27. They took 18 of them, $436 in a blink of an eye. They always want the 1st bid, and they will drive you out because they will often bid over value. It's really starting to tick me off, because they keep buying more and more. All I can do really is just keep bidding against them, if they want to paying high prices, I will gladly make them pay it."

On Jan 9, 2012 he writes "When I get some money I'm gonna sign up for a NGC membership that includes 5 free gradings. I was thinking of this morgan to be one of the 5, but now I don't really think that is a good idea. Who else agrees?"

So, if the OP is to be believed by the things he’s written in the first post of threads he has started, he is pretty much 19 year old, goes to many auctions, buys and sells many coins, wheeling and dealing , but has no experience in coin collecting until recently, only as a person digging up coins he detects. He has money, but is broke a lot and cannot manage a deal for not a lot he has concluded without asking the seller to wait a week . Is upset that he is expected to pay right away. Does a teletrade for 9 dollars and doesn’t pay because there is a buyer’s premium making the coin more expensive than what he wants to pay. He not only doesn’t pay for it, even though he agreed to the terms and conditions to bid (since he didn’t read the terms and doesn’t think a premium is warranted), but he seems to ignore their attempts to have him pay. Says he’s learned a lesson, but now on this seemingly most recent item, he also doesn’t read or look at pictures, just bids at the last half hour or so on the auction and then only when he “wins” the item does he look at the pics, balks at paying, and comes on CT to complain and get justification, I guess. He indicates he’s been on ebay a lot, but his id doesn’t show it.

OP seems to be all over the board, having no focus other than to do posts to try to get other people to agree with what he says or provoke responses. I may be on my high horse about him manning up and paying because it’s his responsibility to pay, as it is what he agreed to, and not be too upset about the seller’s failure to post the pic of the entire front of the slab, but I am not responding to that seller, but to the buyer who has shown that he now has a history of 3 failed purchases due to his failures as a buyer. The two ebay items and the teletrade one. This is a history of buying and then putting the seller into the position of having more hoops to jump through to complete the sale: 1) waiting a week or more for the payment, 2) expecting teletrade to waive the buyer’s premium, and 3) telling the seller that he won’t pay until he’s provided with the cert number (I guess so he can now look it up and see if a picture is there on NGC’s site).

IMO, even though the seller was lacking in providing the required info, that should not give the buyer a free ride on blowing off his responsibilities. He seems to think due diligence is only done after the sale, to make sure he’s not rooked.

For the record, even though the seller did not provide the images required by Ebay, I strongly believe that the buyer is contractually and ethically obligated to follow through with the transaction.

Everyone is talking about contractual obligations and ebay rules... does ebay have a guideline stating that users must be over 18? I try to avoid ebay so I'm not sure.

Also someone already asked what Detecto's age was? I think he may be a minor and not subject to the same contractual obligations/tariff laws as an adult.

    Detecto is a lier.

BTW Detecto, the seller of the Morgan has been contacted by myself along with a link to this thread and informed of your intent to SNAD the auction and not pay. Don't try editing your original post as I took a screenshot of it for posterity and sent that to the seller as well.

This is the 1887 NGC MS62 he won for $49 on eBay.

The picture of the front of the slab is CLEARLY in the listing clearly showing the NGC cert. #.

    Cert.# is 3561986-032

Here's the link for the auction.

Then you would need to take this up with the TPG, not the seller. The seller hasn't misrepresented it, the TPG has.[

Just wondering, Detecto..... how many items have you bid on, won and are now trying to duck paying for?

    But he also bid on and won this one;

And that one does not show the certification number. As much as I do not like his tactics, he did not lie about winning a coin that does not show the number.

I think Detecto Gadget has left the building. Why would people waste sellers time or change the sellers rules to their own?
